Angel Reese is officially spreading her wings.
The basketball player has confirmed that she will be appearing in this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Reese posted a series of photos on Instagram, writing, “Stepping into the dream: From angel to Victoria’s Secret angel. I’ve finally grown my wings 🪽 I’ll be walking the Victoria’s Secret 2025 Runway show for the first time and it feels like destiny ✨ Wings on, heels ready… Catch me on the runway 💗 @victoriassecret.”
These snaps are from a photoshoot she did for a lingerie brand, wearing a black lace bra, matching underwear and, of course, white feathered angel wings.
In some of the photos, Reese has added her official pink and white striped silk VS robe. This is another pinch-me moment for athletes.
With this Victoria’s Secret announcement, she and the brand are making history. Reese will be the first professional athlete to appear on the show.
The 23-year-old is currently a professional basketball player for the Chicago Sky, a member of the WNBA.
This iconic runway show is famous for crowning angels who the brand believes are role models. Victoria’s Secret said of the partnership in a press release: “Angel’s unparalleled athleticism and influence in sports, fashion communities, cultures and women around the world embody the iconic and daring power of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”
Reese, who was a guest at last year’s show, will be viewing the show from a decidedly different perspective as a runway model.
“I couldn’t stop smiling!” Reese told People Magazine after the announcement. “It’s such a surreal, full-circle moment. Just last year I was in the audience, completely inspired and in awe of all the powerful women walking the runway. And now I get to come back as an Angel. This was an unforgettable night and one I will be forever grateful for.”
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been a marquee event since its inception in 1995, but the brand struggled to keep its lingerie runways relevant while avoiding controversy and criticism, ultimately canceling the show after the 2018 runway show’s spectacular conclusion.
Under new management, VS will return in 2024 after a six-year hiatus, aiming to raise the bar for body image, diversity and age expression inclusivity in the industry.
“I hope to inspire women and girls around the world and remind them that not only can we excel in our fields, but we can also pursue our goals outside of them. And for me, that means walking the most iconic runway in fashion and entertainment,” Reese further shared, echoing Victoria’s Secret’s new brand identity.
