Andy Cohen is all for casting transgender Real Housewives, as long as they’re friends with the other women in the cast.
“If there were a transgender Housewife who was friends with other Housewives, that would happen,” a Bravo executive explained during an appearance at Newport Beach TV Fest, the Daily Mail reported.
“You don’t want it to be a stunt. You don’t want it to be like, ‘Let’s cast you in this.’ If someone is friends with that person, that’s great.”
However, Cohen admitted, “I have no idea what kind of franchise it will be.”
The 58-year-old “Live Happens Live” host also revealed that during the early seasons of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” the producers “toyed with the idea” of casting Jaime Laurita, a gay man and brother of Caroline and Dina Manzo.
“So in terms of casting a gay man on the show, this is a show about women and a show that celebrates women, so I think we’ll leave it at that,” concluded Cohen, who is also gay.
Since the “Real Housewives” series premiered in 2006, it has featured several full-time cast members who are openly part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Braunwyn Windham-Burke of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” was the first openly gay woman on the series.
She came out as a lesbian in December 2020 after already appearing on the show.
However, Windham-Burke exclusively told Page Six that she allegedly experienced “homophobia” from her co-stars after the milestone.
“It’s not OK to make creepy jokes about me being intimate with a woman. Those are microaggressions,” she told Us in February 2022 after being kicked off the reality show.
“Having to come out and then have to prove that you’re gay should never be allowed. That’s a microaggression. That’s homophobia.”
Real Housewives of Miami star Julia Lemigova has joined the 2021 reboot, making history as the series’ first out lesbian “housewife.”
The former model married tennis legend Martina Navratilova in 2014.
When former J.Crew creative director Jenna Lyons joined the 2022 Season 14 reboot of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” Bravo cast another openly gay woman.
In addition, openly lesbian Raquel Cheubremont appeared on Season 15 of RHONY.
