L.A.’s American Cinematheque arts nonprofit is launching a new weekly interview podcast series in which various filmmakers and others share their most memorable movie experiences.

The American Cinematheque Podcast is hosted and executive produced by Artistic Director Grant Monninger. The show blends podcast-style interviews with game show elements, with each guest asked about the theaters, screenings, and movie moments that shaped their love of film.

The first two episodes, featuring Edgar Wright and Mary Bronstein respectively, will be released together on April 2nd. Other upcoming guests on the podcast include Franklin Leonard, Larry Karaszewski, Karin Kusama, Walter Murch, Sammy Birch, Noah Segan, Ben-David Grabinski, Patton Oswalt, Danny DeVito, Tatiana Maslany, and Sean Fennessy.

“This show is a celebration of the ‘going’ of ‘going to the movies,’” Moninger says. “Theatrical experiences create deep personal memories that are forever tied to the movies we saw, who we are, and who we were with when we saw them. It could be a wild adventure with friends, a first date, a tender moment with family, or a solo trip to a matinee to see an unknown movie that leaves an indelible impression long after you leave your seat.”

The American Cinematheque Podcast includes both video and audio versions and is released every Thursday on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. An interactive version that allows viewers to “program your own film festival” will also be available on the show’s website, acpodcast.com.

The show will be executive produced by Moninger along with producer Victoria Alejandro and video producer Mike Cuenca. Marketing is directed by Stefani Cervantes, production design is by Seth Meisterman, animation and graphics are by Jack Rossi, and original music is by Gellberg.

Founded in 1984, American Cinematheque first began showing films in theaters in 1985. Its program now includes more than 1,600 screenings a year, as well as panels and special events. The organization is headquartered at the Aero Theatre, Los Feliz 3, the Egyptian Theater, and will soon be located at the Director’s Village in Westwood.
