Amanda Seyfried defended calling the late Charlie Kirk “hatred” following backlash from fans.
“We forget the nuances of humanity,” the “Mean Girls” actress wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.
“I can get mad at misogyny and racist rhetoric, and I very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder is absolutely intrusive and lamentable in every way you can imagine,” she added.
“No one needs to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many meaningless, violent deaths and shootings. Can you at least agree with that?”
Seyfried, 39, wrote in the caption, “I’m not trying to add fuel to the fire,” but wrote, “I want to give something clarity very irresponsible (but obviously) out of context.”
“A lively discourse – is that not something we should have?” she asked.
“Mammamia!” actress faced criticism over the weekend when she called Kirk “hate” under an Instagram post that gave controversial quotes from right-wing political activists such as abortion, immigration and black people.
The Emmy winner also re-shared the text post in his Instagram story on Monday, appearing to hint that Kirk had incited his own death.
“You can’t invite violence to the dinner table and you can’t be shocked when you start eating,” the post read.
Fans took part in social media to share a sloppy dare to Safried’s comments.
“Oh, look in the mirror! He is simply faithful to the Bible. But you don’t understand either faith or the Bible. I don’t agree with him 100%, but I can recognize the issue of violence by expressing my opinion,” one user wrote.
“And this comment added “Do you have love?”
“Hollywood is mean, and another violence supports garbage,” a third party tweeted.
“#amandaseyfried: You’re fired!! ps. Don’t forget that we don’t live in a free speech house. If you’re a famous actor/musician, it’s best to keep your own comments about religion and politics. #prayersupforthekirkfamily.”
Other fans have called for a boycott of Safried’s upcoming film with Sidney Sweeney’s “The Housemaid,” which will be appearing in theaters on Friday.
Kirk was fatally shot on September 10th and spoke outside on an American comeback tour at Utah Valley University in Orem. He was 31 years old.
Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah, was arrested last week and booked at the Utah County Jail. Robinson has been charged with murder, with two counts of obstruction of justice and two counts of discharge from a felony of serious injury, discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, two counts of tampering with eyewitnesses and mandating violent crimes in the presence of a child.
