Pedro and Agustín Almodovar’s El Deseo and Infinity Hill (Argentina 1985) have joined Pamela Anderson and Guy Pearce’s crime film Queen of the Falls as co-producers. The company is joined by Wrong Turn Productions (“Dead Man’s Wire”), Argentina-based Frutacine (“Initial SG”) and France’s Maneki Film (“Promized Sky”).
Starring Oscar-winners Molly Asher (Nomadland, The Rider) and Shruti Ganguly (Initial SG), it is written and directed by Rania Atiye and Daniel Garcia, best known for the acclaimed drama Initial SG.
UK-based Finn Glynn co-founded Infinity Hill with partners Axel Krzebatzky and Cindy Teperman and serves as executive producer.
“Queen of the Falls brings together visionary partners from across continents, including Pamela Anderson and Guy Pearce, who bring extraordinary depth, humor and raw power to Jack and Billy, bringing together these fierce and unforgettable characters. Asher and Ganguly praised the filmmaking duo, saying, “From the first page, Rania and Daniel’s script captivated us. It’s a story that’s dangerous, darkly funny, and deeply human, reminding us of why we make movies.”
Anderson, who received Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for her moving performance in The Last Showgirl, and Oscar-nominated Emmy Award winner Pierce (The Brutalist, Mildred Pierce) headline what is billed as a “crime-fueled road trip romance.”
Vuelta Global Constellation will begin international sales for the project at AFM in Los Angeles from November 11th to 16th. CAA, Anonymous Content and Gersh jointly represent North American rights.
Set to begin filming in Niagara Falls by the first quarter of next year, Queen of the Falls follows two lovers on a ram, a road sweeper (Anderson) and a fugitive (Pierce), as they race toward Niagara Falls in a high-pressure, music-driven road romance about the price of freedom, control, and escape.
“At its heart, ‘Queen of the Falls’ is a story of one woman’s survival disguised as romance. A tale of betrayal, revenge, murder, and music, it takes us on a journey that is equal parts love story, fever dream, and tragedy. A journey haunted by pop music, cheesy Americana, and the very specter of romance,” said Atiyeh and Garcia. “We want this film to be an explosion of love and terror, whimsy and wonder, violence and death, and we couldn’t be more excited to see our two leads, Pamela and Guy, bring this wild, on-the-run journey of love to life.”
“Rania, Daniel, and I have been talking about ‘Queen of the Falls’ for a while. I love their films, especially ‘Initial SG,’ and I think the music part is a natural extension for them,” Anderson said, adding, “Music has always intrigued me, and while this film is definitely not a typical musical, the musical elements are exciting and unexpected.”
Grammy Award and BAFTA Award winner Marius de Vries (“La La Land,” “Moulin Rouge”) will participate in the music, and Celia Rowlson Hall (“The Testament of Ang Lee,” “Aftersun”) will be in charge of the choreography. Sue Jacobs, whose credits include “Promising Young Woman” and “American Hustle,” is supervising the music.
Of co-star Pearce, Anderson said, “Guy is someone I can’t wait to work with. He’s a great actor and he’s committed to this job. We’re in this together. It’s been a long journey, but it’s going to be one that continues delicately, with a dedication to blending the musical aspects into this wild and challenging style of love on the run, a raw and whimsical story.”
Fabian Westerhoff of Global Constellation said, “With ‘Queen of the Falls,’ Rania and Daniel have created something truly original and profoundly cinematic. Part crime story, part love story, both epic and intimate. With Pamela and Guy at the wheel, they capture crisis, humor, and the irresistible charm of love on the edge.”
Atiye and Garcia previously won the Someone to Watch Independent Spirit Award for their 2014 film H, which screened in Venice, Sundance and Berlin. Initial SG (2019) was nominated for Best Narrative at the Tribeca Film Festival and won Atiyeh the Nora Ephron Award.
Anderson and Pierce are both repped by CAA.
