“Showgirl Life” is officially here!
Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album was dropped in the middle of the night on Friday. As many fans expected, there are several nods to the singer’s fiancé, Travis Kelse.
From lyrics that want to “settle down” to jaw-dropping “new height masculinity” lines, Page 6 breaks down all new tracks that appear to refer to Swift’s romance with the NFL star.
Truck 1: “Ophelia’s Fate”
Swift has no time to commemorate the early days of his romance with Kelce. On the first track of “The Life of a Showgirl,” she appears to be singing about how the athlete swooped and made the first move.
I’ve read partially the lyrics to “I heard you call the megaphone / You want to see me alone” and “The Fate of Ophelia.” “And if you didn’t come for me/I might have owned in my depressingly.”
Kelse admitted in July 2023 that she tried to offer Swift (via friendship bracelet) to Swift at her ERAS tour stop in Kansas City, Missouri. He didn’t give up even though he couldn’t see her at the time.
Swift eventually accepted a date with Kelse after several people put some good words into her about co-hosts on the “New Heights” podcast.
The song means that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end “saved (her) heart” from the fate of Ophelia, the tragic character of Shakespeare’s famous “Hamlet.”
“Land, sea, air / your hands / loyalty to your team, keep 100 pcs pledging your atmosphere,” Swift continues on the track. “Don’t care where you were / ‘Because you are mine now.”
Track 3: “Oparite”
When the official tracklist for “The Life of a Showgirl” was revealed in August, Swifties quickly theorized that “Opalite” was related to Kelce.
The three-time Super Bowl champion was born on October 5, 1989. In other words, his astrological signs are Libra, and his birth organisms are opal and tourmaline.
Swift’s “Opalite” follows the story of someone who “had a bad habit” of finding a relationship that “never lasts.” Of course, until everything has changed.
“My mom told me / It’s okay / You were dancing a lightning strike,” sings Swift. “I can’t sleep on Onyx nights / But now the sky is an opalite.”
Track 5: “Oldest daughter”
“When you found me, I said I was busy/it was a lie,” Swift hams on the album’s catchy fifth track. “I’m struggling with the uniqueness of the terminal / I was just dying trying to make it look cool.”
Some Swifties believe they refer to these lyrics, specifically Kelse’s previous entry, saying they won’t be able to meet singers at the 2023 Kansas City ERAS Tour Stop. At the time, Swift was still fresh from her split from frontman Matty Healy in 1975, when the singer wrote some songs on her last album, The Tortured Poets Department.
“Well, I was disappointed. She didn’t talk before or after the show because she had to save her voice for the 44 songs she sings,” Kelse explained to the “New Heights” podcast listener at the time.
“So I was a bit of a butt heart. “She wouldn’t see anyone, or at least she didn’t want to see me, so I did it personally.”
Track 8: “wi $h li $t”
Pop stars have a “wish list,” and it appears that starting a family with Kelse is at the top.
The lyrics of Track No. 8 appear to refer to the new era of Kelce and Swift, preparing to tie the knot following engagement news heard around the world.
“I just want you / I want a few kids / I got an entire block that looks like you / We’re telling the world to leave F-K alone… and they do / Amazing,” Swift. “I dreamed” driveway game / basketball hoop / lift bosses and calm down / get a wish list / I just want you. ”
Towards the end of the song, Swift also sings about making “wishes” for the stars and praying for faithful companions after a failed romance in the past.
“Please, God bring me a best friend / I think it’s hot,” she begs with humor. “I thought I had it right once, twice / but I didn’t.”
Truck 9: “Tree”
When Kelse joked on the “Bussin’ With the Boys with the Boys” podcast in July, he said, “Didn’t you want (his) meat on Page 6?” Welp, sorry, but it seems like it’s impossible to avoid it now.
In her most vulgar song, Swift sings about the “curse” of the bad relationship “broken” which is “magic wand.”
“Please forgive me, that sounds cheeky /He (aaah!) matted me / opened my eyes,” Swift Croon. “Redwood Tree /Not difficult to see /His love was the key /I opened my thighs.”
“Girls, I don’t need to catch a bouquet / to know that a hard rock is approaching,” she continues.
Truck 11: “Honey”
Later on the album, Swift sings about people who bring “different meanings” to the term “Honey.” The track appears to be an obvious reference to Kelce, who used loving nicknames such as “sweet” and “my woman” when talking about the pop star’s fiancé.
“But you touch my face and redefine all the blues of them / When you say… “Honey” / Summer spritz, pink sky”, Swift Marvels. “You can call me ‘honey’ /If you want /I want /Wintergreen kiss, all mine /You give it a different meaning.
“Honey, I’m at home, we can play in the house / we can sleep, we can pick you up, who is the worst on the land, what is the plan?” she adds. “What is your plan? /You could be my eternal night stand /Honey.”
The Grammy Award winner also ultimately calls out that she has a partner who “has adored” her.
It’s no secret that Kelce has exaggerated rapidly since the beginning of the romance, showing up to support her on tours of the era, bragging about her in various interviews, bragging about her not to leave the PDA when the camera is present.
Their love story is a dramatic change from what the “Bad Blood” singer experienced in previous well-known relationships with celebrities such as Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy.
As Page Six previously reported, Swift announced “The Life of a Showgirl” in August, making its record-breaking debut with the “New Heights” podcast, where Travis co-hosts with his brother Jason.
“This album is about what’s going on behind the scenes inside me while on the (ERAS) tour.
“It comes from the most infected, joyful, wild and dramatic place I’ve ever had in my life. And because this record has come to bubble up… this is the record I’ve been wanting to make for so long.”
She added: “This album isn’t about what happened to me on stage, it’s about getting off stage. It’s life and it’s behind everything that’s.
Just a few weeks after the podcast’s arrival, 35-year-old Swift and Kelce announced they were secretly engaged via Instagram.
“Your English teacher and gym teacher are married,” they captioned the joint post.
The NFL star went down one knee in a vibrant cut sparkler from a dreamy old mine that he co-designed with Artifex Fine jeweller Kindred Lubeck. The lovers have yet to reveal details about their wedding.
