Trinidad Chambliss’ rapid progression from Division II backup to Ole Miss starter has been nothing short of extraordinary. But his parents, Trent and Cheryl Chambliss, have always tried to keep his meteoric rise in sight.
“If it’s not fun, what’s the point?” Trent told the Daily Journal in October 2025. “But you can’t win every game. So at the end of the day, how do you learn? How do you grow? … What do we do the next day? And what do we learn? What are they teaching us?”
The couple raised two sons, Trinidad and his older brother Tyler, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. According to Yahoo!, Trent is a high school administrator, while Cheryl, now retired, spent her career as a juvenile probation officer. Sports. Trinidad’s father introduced him to the sport and also served as his son’s high school soccer coach.
Those early lessons followed the quarterback, who transferred from Division II Ferris State University to the University of Mississippi in 2025. According to Grand Rapids Magazine, Trinidad was unexpectedly inserted into the starting lineup after the starting quarterback was injured and has since helped the Rebels become a 2025 College Football Playoff contender. they met at a basketball tournament

Although Cheryl and Trent grew up miles apart, she from New Jersey and he from South Bend, Indiana, they ended up in Grand Rapids, the Daily Journal reported. There they met during practice for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and got to know each other further through mutual friends.
Eventually the couple married and had two sons, Tyler and Trinidad.
Trent played football in college.
Trinidad seems to have inherited his love for soccer from his father. Trent moved from his hometown to Grand Rapids to play football at Grand Rapids Community College. But unlike his son, Trent was an offensive lineman, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
Trinidad’s father later coached football at Forest Hills Northern, a local high school that Trinidad attended. According to Grand Rapids Magazine, the future Ole Miss quarterback played on the school field as a child and was a star on the football and basketball teams as a student.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Trent has worked at a number of Michigan schools and has been the assistant principal at Wyoming High School since 2022.
Cheryl worked as a probation officer
Sherrill worked as a juvenile probation officer for 30 years before retiring, according to the Daily Journal. After saying goodbye to a decades-long career, she began working as a substitute teacher and receptionist at a mental health clinic in Michigan.
“Cheryl’s extensive experience in juvenile court has given her a deep understanding of the human experience and the complexities that individuals face,” her bio reads. “This insight allows her to respond to inquiries, provide information, and guide people through the process, ensuring each person feels heard, supported, and well-informed.”

Trent and Cheryl have two sons, Tyler and Trinidad. Tyler was born first, followed by Trinidad on August 24, 2002.
The couple told the Daily Journal in October 2025 that they had agreed to name their second child Cheryl if it was a girl and Trent if it was a boy. His wife claimed that Trinidad was named after the Spanish word for “Trinity,” but Trent claimed that boxer Felix Trinidad was the inspiration for the moniker.
“I thought, ‘Trinidad, that’s a nice name,'” he explained. “And then eventually there was a correlation between the Holy Trinity and religious and spiritual connections that made it even better.”
They taught Trinidad the sport from an early age

Trent told the Daily Journal that her son has always been athletic and “could play catch before he could walk.” Trinidad was passionate about various sports from an early age and, according to Cheryl, “always had a ball in his hands.”
He also played soccer, baseball, and basketball, but Trinidad eventually fell in love with soccer. Trent, who was a coach at the time, began teaching his son quarterback drills during meetings when Trinidad was only 6 or 7 years old.
His parents recalled playfully hitting him with a pool noodle during his progress, and eventually an ever-growing group of neighborhood kids came together for daily practice.
“The next thing you know, he had a whole team of kids, like watching little Pee-wee practice or just a school team,” Sherrill told the Daily Journal. “And Trinidad really loved it. It wasn’t something forced on him, it wasn’t something he resented. He just really enjoyed it.”

When Trinidad played at Ferris State, he would run to the fence and pray with his mother during warmups. The quarterback and his mother told the Clarion Ledger that he was able to continue the pregame tradition after transferring to Ole Miss.
After Chambliss escapes from the tunnel, he finds his mother in the stands and the two say a prayer together.
Cheryl said of her son’s success in college: “It’s surreal and amazing and we feel truly blessed.” “It’s really great for people to see what we already knew about our son, that he’s talented and has the ability to lead.”
