Aryna Sabalenka’s new ring is a Grand Slam.
The world’s number one tennis star, 27, got engaged to her fiancé Georgios Franglis. The 37-year-old Brazilian entrepreneur proposed on March 3 with a custom-made 12-carat oval diamond ring set in platinum with a curved band and emerald accents in front of an elaborate display of roses and candles. This is Sabalenka’s favorite stone, which also happens to be her birthstone.
Sabalenka shared the news on Instagram with the caption: “You and me forever ♾️ 3.3.26💍🤍” and received well-wishes from famous friends including David Beckham, Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff.
The ring was designed by Isabela Grutman, founder and CEO of fine jewelry brand Isa Grutman, who collaborated with Frangulis to complete this piece.
“I’ve always admired their love and relationship, so I was thrilled when Georgios asked me to design this piece,” Grutman told Page Six Style.
“We spent months on the design, choosing the stones and perfecting every detail of the craftsmanship to make it truly special for Alina. What made it even more meaningful was Georgios’ idea to incorporate her favorite stone, emerald, into the design. This is a personal touch that makes the ring unique to her.”
Kristi Kallinen, co-founder of Plum Diamond, says the emerald detail is what caught her eye the most. “Personal touches like this add even more meaning and significance to important moments like this,” she said.
Cullinan estimated the value of a mined diamond ring at more than $750,000, depending on cut and clarity, adding that a similar ring with a lab diamond would likely cost around $25,000.
This puts it in the company of some serious celebrity sparklers. Kourtney Kardashian’s Travis Barker oval-cut ring, designed by Lorraine Schwartz, is estimated to weigh around 10 to 12 carats and is thought to be worth around $1 million, while Kris Jenner’s heart-cut diamond, which debuted in 2023, weighs around 10 carats and is worth $1.2 million, experts told Page Six Style.
There’s a reason the oval cut is a classic choice, Kallinen points out. “Ovals are always popular. They’re timeless, they look great, and they look big for their carat weight,” she says, adding that elongated stones are a major trend right now. “Long stones lengthen the fingers, causing the eyes to move up and down rather than across the fingers, emphasizing and making the fingers thinner.”
Some construction details also caught her eye. “We love the curved band. It would be interesting and great layering to pair with your wedding ring in the future,” she said. “Double prongs are a big trend in recent years. They’re stylish, functional, and provide extra security for these large, stunning diamonds.”
Sabalenka openly hinted at Franglis earlier this year, joking at the Brisbane International in January, “I’m grateful for my boyfriend…I hope we can call him another name soon.”
The four-time Grand Slam champion nodded to the comment in his second post about the engagement, writing, “Finally I can call him something else…fiancé 💍.”
But the actual moment clearly caught her off guard. In the proposal video, she is seen wearing baggy jeans, a white T-shirt, flip-flops and loose braids.
In a video posted by the WTA, a Belarusian tennis pro enters the practice range with a dog in his arms and flashes his ring as someone on the other side of the camera asks if he’s surprised.
“Of course,” she said with a laugh. “Did you see my outfit and my no makeup and flip flops?”
When asked how he’s doing, he replies with a laugh, “I feel shiny!”
Grutman also shared a behind-the-scenes reel documenting the process from inspecting the stone to reviewing the CAD images.
“I’m analyzing this 12-carat oval diamond,” she said. “When I ask my future husband to choose the perfect ring and stone, I first analyze the woman. What kind of person is she? Is she more modern? Is she more classic?”
Sabalenka is currently competing in the Indian Wells Open in California, with Franglis cheering her on courtside. And now her left hand has a little more shine.
