Alexander Skarsgard is still excited that the “Pirion” story has to be told.
Director Harry Lightton’s latest film embarks on a dominant/obedient relationship with charismatic biker gang leader Ray (Skarsgard), “Harry Potter” alumnus Harry Melling as a young gay man, Colin.
“In this case, it discovered that my background wasn’t really related. I mean, I have kids, but what I’ve done in the past, with guys, women, what was important to me was that this felt like an opportunity to talk about subcultures I’d never seen before.
“My experience of seeing this on screen is (Al Pacino’s Starr) “cruising,” in this dark abdomen in New York City, which is dangerous, murderous and scary. Leather gays are scary.
Robbie Taylor Hunt was the intimate coordinator of the film.
“We weren’t making sure we were comfortable because we were too comfortable with each other. But there’s a dramatic story in these scenes. It’s not always the case. I often make sex boring on screen. Usually, all the tension goes to that moment.
“We wanted it to be clumsy and weird. On screen, it often looks like ballet, but sex can be bothersome and funny.”
He appreciates that Lyton “didn’t wear silk gloves to tell this story.”
“He embraced the awkwardness of it. All of these characters were completely escaped, and the sex scenes weren’t graphic because of the graphics.
“Harry did a beautiful job calibrating it. “Ah, I don’t show sex to men,” so you don’t get away from it, but you don’t show a close-up of your penis just because you can do it for shocking value. I think my mother likes this movie.
Skarsgård didn’t know anything about Lighton’s work before making the film.
“I want to praise Logline,” he announced.
“I never saw the ‘Len Boys’ or Harry’s shorts. I knew nothing about him. I don’t remember exactly how they summarise the film, but it was “like Wallflower Colin meeting Ray, a perverted gay biker gangster. This is the beginning of a strange and odd, beautiful love story.” It piqued my interest. ”
He added: “It’s so original, it’s very rare. I read a great script where I liked: ‘This is great, but reminds me of the 10 movies I’ve seen.’ I was invited to this world with so much love and compassion, but he didn’t do it with too much respect.
His character, Ray, remains mystical throughout the film.
“I accepted it as an excuse that I was extremely lazy and didn’t have to come up with a backstory. He liked the mystery. Harry Melling and I met two days before I started filming the film.
“I loved Ray being a mystery at the beginning of the film, but at the end I read the script and was so nervous that, for example, Colin discovered that Ray had a secret wife and that it was a big dramatic moment. And he certainly didn’t.”
He’s joking about what draws him to his role: “Money, yeah! Capitalism, baby.” Skarsgard admitted that he approached an intimate scene with Nicole Kidman in “Big Little Lies.”
“About this, Harry and I were literally excited to throw themselves into the ring. In ‘Big Little Lies’, it was important that Nicole and I met before and really build that trust.
“Many of these scenes are filmed on one camera, the entire scene plays from start to finish, and is physically and very violent, emotionally very violent.
I go to Nicole’s house, play with her kids, hang out, have lunch and talk. By the time we started filming, our two friends were together. ”
So far, the subculture it portrays welcomes “Pirion” with arms open, recalling his initial screening at Cannes, Skarsgard said.
“The bikers in the film are members of the GBMCC, the British gay biker motorcycle club. Five of them ran from London. Together we celebrated the most extraordinary things day and night. Paul (Talis) threw a puppy mask right after the screening.”
“There was a joint party with Nigerian films where homosexuality is illegal. It was Nigerian’s first film to perform at the Cannes Film Festival, so there were Nigerian ambassadors and politicians. There was a perverted gay biker in the leather harness, and Paul was looking at the puppy things,” he said.
“If you’re not a (professional) actor, even if you’re proud of the end result, it’s really strange to see you sit in a cinema with thousands of people at the world’s biggest film festival and run around naked on screen.
