Alec Baldwin is speaking out about the car accident he and his brother Stephen Baldwin were involved in.
Late on Monday, October 13, the actor, 67, posted a video on Instagram in which he says he crashed his wife Hilaria Baldwin’s car into a tree while driving with his brother Stephen, 59, in East Hampton, New York.
“I just wanted to post a quick message. This morning I received all the inquiries about my car. I was in a car accident this morning,” Alec began in the video. “I’m fine. My brother Stephen was visiting Long Island and we spent the weekend there for a film festival.”
According to Alec’s account, he and Stephen were attending the Hamptons International Film Festival, which ended on Monday, October 13th, and were driving in the morning when they were cut off by a “guy who was hit by a garbage truck” who was “the size of a whale”.
“It was the biggest garbage truck I’ve ever seen. Anyway, I’m boring because I won’t go into detail, but to avoid hitting him, it hit a tree. It hit a big thick tree and crushed my car and my wife’s car,” he added. “I crashed my wife’s car. Unfortunately, my brother and I are fine.”
Easthampton Police Chief Michael D. Sarlo told PEOPLE on Tuesday, Oct. 14, that the town’s police department responded to Baldwin’s accident on Oct. 13 at approximately 12:01 p.m.

“It was discovered that a white 2023 Range Rover operated by Alec Baldwin and passenger Stephen Baldwin struck a tree on the shoulder of the eastbound roadway while attempting to avoid the turning action of a 2020 Mack commercial truck registered with the National Waste Service in Bay Shore, New York,” Sarlo said in a statement.
“No injuries were reported, no citations were issued, and contributing factors to the accident were determined to be an uninvolved vehicle and a reaction to slippery, wet road conditions.”
In Alec’s video, the actor thanked East Hampton police officers who responded to the scene of the accident.
“My wife’s car was pretty badly damaged. A big tree, a big, thick tree. And I’m going to Los Angeles to see my family. I can’t wait,” he said. “I’m going to California to gather my family, spend a few days there and then go home. But I’m still so proud of my wife. Hilaria, I love you more than anything and I’m so proud of you.”
“I’m fine. I’m fine. Other than that…” he added, gesturing to the scrapes on his face.

Hilaria, 41, also shared a short video on Instagram on Oct. 13 in which her husband assured her, “It’s okay, Stephen is okay, everyone is okay.”
“No one was hurt, and that’s the most important thing,” said Hilaria, who recently returned from a Dancing with the Stars competition. “That’s why I love you, and thank you, thank you, thank you for caring.”
