Cartoon Saloon’s animated short film Éiru will be screened in advance of the North American theatrical release of the upcoming feature film Little Amelie, or Rain Character.
The film was written and directed by Cartoon Saloon veteran Giovanna Ferrari and produced by the Academy.
“Eil,” from award-nominated Nora Twomey (“The Breadwinner”), is about the youngest child of an Iron Age family who wants to become a powerful warrior and be taken seriously by her family. But when the village’s well mysteriously runs dry, she is the only one small enough to descend into the belly of the earth to investigate and bring back the water of life to her people.
The film has already won the Satoshi Kon Award for Excellence in Animation (Best Short Film – Silver) at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
“Little Amelie or Rain Characters” and “Eil” will bow before their theatrical release.

“Little Amelie or Rain Characters” will be released on November 7th. This movie depicts Amelie, who has a deep love for her family’s housekeeper, Mr. Nishio. Amelie discovers the wonders of nature and the emotional truths hidden beneath the surface of her family’s idyllic life as foreigners in postwar Japan.
The film is based on the autobiographical novel by Amelie Nortombe. Mairis Valade (The Lighthouse Keeper) makes his directorial debut and co-directs with Lian-Cho Han (animation director of Calamity and Long Way North). “Little Amelie, or the Rain Character” had its world premiere.

It will be screened for the first time as an official selection of the 2025 Annecy International Animation Competition.
It won the audience award at the festival.
