Richmond’s son, Fairye Richmond, directed Kangaroo Kids, his second feature film.
According to a press release, “Kangaroo Kids” tells the story of “a young girl, Johnny (Josefina Baeza), who works at her mother’s struggling zoo, who forms an instant headline-making bond with a famous kangaroo brought in to save the zoo. The high-profile con artist Jacob (Robbie Allen) sends in three bumbling thieves, led by Kodiak (Richmond), to steal the kangaroo and appease the wealthy.” As Kathryn (Kinmont) and her sick son attempt to capture the robbers and fail, Johnny rallies his friends to save the kangaroo and the zoo, and Jacob must summon his weapon, Maria (Ashby), to thwart Jacob’s plan. ”
“Kangaroo Kids is a fun adventure that captures the magic of friendship, courage and teamwork,” S&R Films managing director Gato Scatena said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring this heartwarming story to families this February and share with everyone a movie that will keep kids and adults smiling from start to finish.”
The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2023 on the now-defunct Sunn Stream OTT platform. In addition to North American rights, Scatena & Rozner Films will assist in completing post-production and will also handle Latin American distribution and international sales.
“Kangaroo Kids” is available for pre-order on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play. Watch the trailer below.
