Taylor Swift rose to wild fame, especially with her incredibly successful ERAS tour. The pop star certainly deserves most of her credit, but her parents were the winds under her wings throughout her career. Scott and Andrea Swift recognized her daughter’s talent early and supported her in all her pursuits.
“She was always singing music when she was 3, 5, 6, 7, 7,” Scott told Udaily, the University of Delaware newspaper. “Taylor is doing what she wants to do.”
Not all dads find themselves fond of going extra distances singing to help their kids follow their dreams, but Scott did. And Andrea was by both sides. Everything you need to know about the couple behind the stars.
Who are Scott and Andrea Swift?
Aside from being parents, will you become one of the biggest stars in the world? Andrea worked as a marketing manager at an advertising agency, while Scott was a stockbroker who ultimately served as vice president of Merrill Lynch. They married on February 20, 1988 in Texas. Taylor was born on December 13, 1989, and his younger brother Austin arrived on March 11, 1992.
As business-oriented people, they probably didn’t expect such a creative child. At the very least, her mom was thinking about the future where her daughter was working in the business and named her to protect her from gender discrimination. “If my mother got a business card that said ‘Taylor’, she thought she wouldn’t know if it was a man or a woman…she wanted me to be a business person in the business world.”
They are both cancer survivors.
In a 2015 Tumblr post, Taylor shared that Andrea had been diagnosed with the disease. She kept the details private, but added, “She wanted you to know. She didn’t know if she wasn’t on as many shows as this tour. She has an important fight to fight.”
In an essay by Elle in 2019, Taylor said that Andrea’s cancer has returned and that Scott has also been treated for cancer. The family, of course, keeps medical details private.
How did Scott and Andrea encourage Taylor Swift when she was a child?
Swift talked a lot about how she grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Wyo Missing, Pennsylvania. They made her start by closing her local gigs and karaoke nights.
They eventually moved to Hendersonville, a suburb of Nashville, where they had more opportunities. To attract attention, the family began handing out tapes of Taylor singing karaoke.
“My brother was driving with his brother and knocking on the door up and down the music line,” Taylor told Entertainment Weekly in 2008.
She signed a record deal with Sony when she was 14. Despite being a young Taylor man, Andrea told Entertainment Weekly that he put no pressure on his daughter.
“There’s always a hatch to escape into normal life if she decides that this is not something she has to pursue,” Andrea said in a 2008 interview. “And of course, it’s like telling her, ‘If you want to stop breathing, it’s cool.’ ”
They also made no assembly of the move to Nashville for Taylor’s exclusive use.
“I didn’t want to move that around ‘making’ her,” Andrea told EW. “If that didn’t happen, what a horrible thing she would have to bear such guilt and pressure… And we said it wasn’t about making our dreams come true because she was constantly reminded outside Nashville that she didn’t have to go to school with the producer kids and that she was struggling to make it.”
However, after Taylor made his debut with Grand Oreople in September 2006, Andrea was the one who went on tour with his daughter. When Taylor fearlessly won her first Grammy Award, Taylor dedicated the award to her parents.
“This is because of all the time I said I can do whatever I want in life,” she said. “And my mom, you’re my best friend.”
How are Andrea and Scott involved in Taylor Swift’s life now?
Shortly after her initial cancer diagnosis, Andrea accompanied Taylor on the ACM Awards stage. Swift was awarded the Milestone Award.
“From the time I was a little girl with intertwined hair that was the milestone artist to preparing for my next world tour, I’m full of imagination and creativity. I’m extremely proud,” Andrea said.
Scott is extremely proud of his daughter, but Netflix documentary Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, Taylor, revealed that he has a lot of concern. The conversation came after she publicly supported two Democratic candidates in her Tennessee home town in 2018.
“This was a situation where I knew it was right from a human perspective and from what my moral compass had told me to do. “My father is afraid of threats to my safety and my life, and he has to see how many stalkers we deal with every day and knows this is his child.”
They both have supported Taylor through her extensive Eras tour.
Scott took part in the kickoff in March 2023 and wore “father of the headliner,” meaning “doh pass.”
In April 2023, Taylor yelled the couple in Houston. In a video posted to Tiktok, she said: “I love you, Houston. You treat us like we are my mother’s hometown. You treat us like we are where my parents married.”
In Philadelphia on Mother’s Day, in a Twitter video, Taylor sang “The Best Day,” a song he wrote for his mother in 2008.
“I just wrote this song and edited this trait of this core childhood that had her not only as a mother but as a friend,” she explained.
Taylor continued. “I thought, ‘Mom, I wrote it and recorded it secretly. It’s our memory.’ I don’t think she could understand when I wrote a song about the two of us, so it was the sweetest thing ever. ”
Both were at the Los Angeles premiere of her ERAS tour film in October 2023.
They both seem to be Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelse.
Travis Kelse and Scott were in Argentina standing in the VIP section for Taylor’s show at Buenos Aires. Scott was spotted in a VIP box at a football game with his daughter while Kansas City chief was playing. In December, he and Andrea met Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, at a match.
And when Kansas City chief won the Super Bowl this year, Scott and Andrea were both present. In Taylor’s Tiktok, her parents were seen partying at Zouk Nightclub in Resorts World, Las Vegas after their victory.
They were also seen together at Wembley Stadium for Taylor’s third ERAS Tour concert in London in June 2024. That night, for her surprise song, Taylor performed a mashup of the speak-hit “Mean” and the tortured poets section “Thank you Amy.”
Andrea is voiced in a song about Taylor’s feud with Kim Kardashian. She sings the lyrics. “We all know that my mother is a holy woman, but she said she wanted you to be dead.”

Andrea joined Taylor and Travis Kelce’s mother, Donakelse, on the night of the game in November 2024.
On November 4th, Andrea met Kelce’s mom, Donna. Swift wore all black in denim shorts and knee high boots. She wore a black and red leather jacket and gold jewelry on top. The singer sat between the two Skybox moms as Kelse’s team faced off against the Buccaneers of Tampa Bay.
The mom and daughter duo shared a sweet moment after the Toronto Show.
On Thursday, November 21st, Andrea was waiting for Taylor as she left the Toronto stage, following another ERAS tour show. The clips shared by fans quickly create waves in the crowd before hugging their mother. They shared a long embrace before walking behind the scenes together.
They shared a special moment in December with Travisquels’ mother Donakelse.
In a video shared on X on December 21, 2024, Taylor and Andrea can be seen sharing the group’s embrace with Travis Kelles’ mother Donakels shortly after the Kansas City chief won a game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium. The embrace begins between the mother and daughter, and they pull to squeeze Donna.
Scott had Quintople Bypass surgery in 2025 and is now fine.
In July 2025, TMZ revealed that Scott had undergone Quintople Bypass surgery more than a month ago, and Taylor was by his side along with his brothers Austin, Mama and Andrea during the heart procedure and recovery period.
Swift officials confirmed the news and revealed that the surgery was not the result of a heart attack. His doctor discovered the problem during the examination that led to the surgery. A few weeks after his recovery, Scott “feels nice,” the outlet wrote.
Taylor shared more about her parents’ health in August 2025.
When appearing on Kelse’s New Heights podcast on August 13th, Taylor renewed his father Scott after a fifth of his bypass surgery in July. “He’s doing well,” she said. “He’s doing incredibly well. My dad had an interesting summer. He actually had a quintuple bypass surgery, which is a really intense surgery.
She remembers that Scott doesn’t want to worry about his family, saying, “When a cat gets injured, it curls around the tree and heals itself.” Taylor joked.
“It was a very parent-child reversal in many ways, just like my brother, my mother and I had their respective shifts in the ICU and stayed 24/7,” she added.
Taylor also moved in with Scott while she recovered, saying, “He’s the funniest thing ever and he’s really funny. He didn’t know how many blockages he had. And he’s like, ‘Well, you, I came from a very competitive family’. ”
As for her mother Andrea, Taylor shared that she’s “doing great things” after undergoing knee replacement surgery this summer. “This was like a summer of my parents’ upgrades,” the singer said. “Make sure they live to be at least 186 years old. They are two of my best friends and I’m just adoring them, and it was one of the most special things that actually happened to me.”
Kelse asked for their blessings before promptly proposing.
