Gabriella Brooks revealed the engagement ring that Liam Hemsworth gave her in September 2025. The ring comes with antique cut diamonds and is an east waist set. Jeweler spoke to Elle about how they design the rings and their impact on the trends in bridal jewelry.
Liam Hemsworth dated Gabriella Brooks for nearly six years before making the proposal, but the wait led to a truly unique ring. The model included a closer look at Sparkler in his engagement announcement post on September 12th.
Diamond has something in common with two famous engagement rings released in 2025. Zendaya’s East and West Diamond Rings and Taylor Swift’s old mine-cut diamond rings are a type of antique cut. “Each antique cut is unique and unique,” tells Elle, Steph Mazuera, who founded a uniquely named brand that creates custom-made engagement rings. “Each of them has their own unique personality.”
Brooks’ rings are a blend of old and new things by Angie Kennedy, Vice President of Merchandising at Zareth. “This is a ring that captures both classic elegance and modern refinement.
The two jewellers break down the design of Brooks’ rings and how it reflects the bigger bridal jewelry trends.
Brooks has cushion cut diamonds set east to west.
The stone in the middle of Brooks has a trendy twist, saying, “The diamond appears to be set west to the east. It means it sits horizontally on your hand, rather than the classic vertical that is common in engagement rings.”
The diamonds have antique cuts, giving the ring a romantic look.
Both Kennedy and Mazuela emphasize the diamond cut. “The cushion cut has a romantic softness, providing an extraordinary glow and an impressive look of your fingers,” says Kennedy.
Mazuela reveals how it differs from today’s more common and gorgeous cuts. “Antique diamonds have larger facets and reflect light that is different from modern stones. When modern stones reflect a more vibrant, crushed ice glow, the bones reflect a more romantic glow.”
The central stone is estimated to be between 4 and 7 carats.
Hemsworth chose the diamond that was too heavy to make a statement without wearing it.
Mazuela says that diamonds are “about 4 carats. Their value depends heavily on their origin, color and clarity. All of these can vary widely in antique stones. It is also worth noting that while these charms exist precisely in these unique and historical qualities, older cuts are graded at a lower stage on the color scale compared to modern diamonds.
Kennedy offers a higher estimate: “From what we can see, the central stone looks like about 6-7 carats.
The ring has a bezel setting for added comfort.
Brooks’ rings have trendy settings that make you feel as good as they look. Mazuela explains: “The ring is the style of a bezel set. That is, instead of using prongs, the diamond is fixed with a thin gold frame around the stone. The bezel setting is perfect for those who want a very safe and comfortable setting.”
Kennedy adds that the selection focuses on Brooks’ centerstone. “The solitaire setting, reinforced by delicate bezels and thin bands, allows the diamond to speak of itself.
Brooks’ rings, along with Taylor Swift, help popularize antique-cut diamonds.
Swift’s engagement rings talk to the world about antique cut diamonds, while Brooks’ sparklers just add to your chatter.
“Antiques are becoming more and more popular. I think it’s a diamond style that few people knew before Taylor Swift’s engagement,” says Mazuela. “When people start exploring engagement rings, they think of all the classic shapes. Few people explore the world of antique shapes. The demand for antique shapes is because more people know them, and each antique cut is unique and each has their own unique personality.”
