Whether you’re “in your 30s, frivolous, and thriving,” know all of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance moves, or are just a big Razzles fan, it’s big news that Netflix is rebooting the classic romantic comedy 13 Going on 30.
Original star Jennifer Garner plays Jenna Rink, an awkward teenager who is magically brought into the 30-year-old’s life as a talented but troublesome magazine editor, and is attached to executive produce the film, which also stars Emily Bader and Logan Lerman. The film will be directed by Brett Haley, who also starred in Netflix’s adaptation of Emily Henry’s “How I Met You” starring Vader.
“’13 Going on 30′ is one of those rare, perfect movies. It’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s deeply human, and it has unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer,” Haley said. (Ruffalo played Matt, Jenna’s nerdy best friend and eventual soulmate, and Greer played Lucy, Jenna’s lifelong frenemy.) “I’m a longtime fan, so it’s a big responsibility to step into this reimagining, and it’s especially meaningful that Jennifer Garner comes on board as an executive producer, as she was a huge part of what made the original so special.”

Haley also expressed her excitement at reuniting with Vader, adding, “She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical combination. I feel incredibly lucky to be entrusted with a job that means so much to so many people.”
Following the success of “The People I Met on Vacation,” which spent four weeks on Netflix’s World Top 10 Movies list and reached the top 10 in 92 countries, Bader has been tapped to star in the streamer’s upcoming sports drama “The 99’ers.” Bader will play U.S. women’s soccer legend Mia Hamm in the film, which chronicles the team’s run to their historic 1999 World Cup victory.
Luhrmann’s decades-long filmography (“Percy Jackson,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “We Were the Lucky Ones”) includes a recent role in the dark comedy “Oh Hi!,” directed by Sophie Brooks, and co-starring with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez in the fifth season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
Mr. Bader is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, Viewpoint, Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. Rahman is repped by UTA, Brillstein and Viewpoint. Haley is repped by WME, Untitled and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
Bader will be directed by Flora Gleeson (The Princess Diaries 3, The High Note) from a script by Hannah Marks (Mark, Mary and the Others, After Everything). The film’s logline is being kept secret.
13 Going on 30 is produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirshenbaum of RK Films. In addition to Garner, Donna Ross and Susan Arnold are executive producers. Scott Hemming (Revolution Studios); Alyssa Altman (RK Films); and Marks.
