‘Wuthering Heights’ duo margot robbie and charlie Robbie, who stars in and produces Wuthering Heights, recalled that humiliating encounter when asked to name the worst gift he had ever received.
“Very early in my career, a male actor I worked with gave me a book called ‘Why French Women Don’t Gain Weight,’ which was essentially a book that told me to eat less,” Robbie said, much to Charlie’s shock. “I was like, ‘Wow, shit, dude.’
When Charlie asked if her male co-star still had a job, Robbie replied, “That was so long ago. I don’t even know where he is now. This was so long ago…He essentially gave me a book to let me know I should lose weight. I was like, ‘Wow.'”
Robbie plays Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi, who plays Heathcliff, in Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, director of Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Despite the erotic content of the film’s marketing, which features Charlie’s original songs, Robbie recently told British Vogue that the actual film will be different.
“Everyone is expecting this to be very obscene. I think some people will be surprised. It’s not without sexual elements, it’s not that it’s not provocative, but it’s definitely provocative. But it’s more romantic than provocative,” Robbie told concerned readers. “It’s a big, epic romance. It’s been a while. It’s probably ‘The Notebook’ or ‘The English Patient.’ You have to go back decades. When your chest swells, or it feels like someone punches you in the gut, and the air leaves your body. That’s Emerald’s signature. Her superpowers cause a physical reaction, whether it’s provocative or repulsive.”
