The sports drama “Christy,” featuring a transformative performance as a female boxer from “Euphoria” star Sidney Sweeney, will be released in theaters by Black Bear in the awards season.
Heading to the Toronto Film Festival, “Christie” was one of the hottest acquisition targets, but Black Bear, who funded the photo, decided to remove it from the board and make it the first release of the fledgling distribution label. This film is a biopic of Christy Martin, the WBC female super welterweight champion. It is directed by Sundance’s Great Jue Award winner David Mycord (Animal Kingdom) and co-stars Ben Foster, Merritt Weber and Katie Oblien. “Christy” will be released in theaters nationwide on November 7th, with Blackemer set to host an Oscar campaign for photos and Sweeney’s performance.
