Barcelona and Madrid-based creative hub YouPlanet is doubling the original production with the launch of YouPlanet Studios, a new content division led by Beltrán Gortázar, who will join the group as vice president of strategy.
The move marks a critical step in the company’s expansion from influencer marketing, film distribution and branded content to premium film and television production.
Gortázar spent over 15 years in senior leadership roles at Google, YouTube and Coca-Cola, and most recently served as CEO of SUMA content, founded by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo. “Paquita Salas” by Netflix, Movistar Plus+’la Mesías” and “Cardo” by Atresmedia.
At YouPlanet, he oversees both the group’s strategic evolution and the creative pipeline of its new studio arms as CEO.
YouPlanet also acquired the innovation and production venture that Gortázar was developing after leaving SUMA content earlier this year. From day one, the deal will bring IP roster in aggressive development with top-notch creative talent, along with several initiatives in the field of innovation that apply to the film and television sectors.
“YouPlanet Studios opens a new stage for your group. We’ll strengthen our ability to generate content with our global vision and bet on an integrated model that connects talent, quality storytelling and scale.”
“This movement places us more strongly in a rapidly evolving industry and reaffirms our commitment to creators as the driving force behind everything we do.”
Building an integrated ecosystem
After starting his film career in manga films in 2002, Deval, who produced media film Goiya Award-winning films such as “El Traco del Manco”, “Heros” and “Cathmandu, United Nations Espejo El El Cielo”, highlighted how the new studio stands out in the current independent market.
“The great value we achieved with YouPlanet is building an ecosystem from film distribution to influencers and digital marketing. This will create a very strong synergy with new studios and provide a more ambitious lifecycle for every project,” he says.
“We want to integrate labels that distinguish between three aspects: story quality, top creative talent and global reach.”
Local projects, international ambitions
For Gortázar, the first priority is to secure local projects with international ambitions. “We want to work with creators who have a unique voice and perspective that can reach a diverse audience.
YouPlanet’s track record of distribution includes Oscar-winning titles, “Everything at once, anywhere” and “Whale.”
Gortázar said that you can now explore collaborative production that combines production muscles with distribution reach.
Core Innovation and Talent
Regarding talent strategies, Goltazar said, “We want to establish a long-term relationship and give the creator the confidence that their voices will be protected at every stage.”
Innovation, on the other hand, is considered a core driver. “For us, innovation is not ambitious. It’s part of our identity,” De Val said.
“We explore stories that experiment with structures and innovate ways to integrate agile methodologies, new technologies, and more free and creative processes.”
YouPlanet Studios is currently aiming to become a launchpad for bold storytelling, aiming to resonate with the global scene and provide projects that originate from Spain.
