Chloe Fineman revealed that while Lorne Michaels was attending the World Cup semifinals, she called him and told him he was leaving “Saturday Night Live.”
“He was watching England vs. Argentina in typical fashion,” the comedian told Variety at the premiere of Apple TV’s “The Dink” in Los Angeles on Monday.
“He was doing the coolest things in the world with the coolest people, and we had some really fun conversations.”
Feynman, 38, remembers Michaels, 81, answering the phone and saying, “I’m in a game and I’ll call you back.”
“Is it a soccer game?” Mr. Feynman recalled. “I joked and said, ‘I guess you’re rooting for England because you have a very British energy, right?'”
Ms. Feynman said her “SNL” boss called her back and “we had a really nice conversation” about her decision.
Feynman announced his departure from the sketch comedy series on Thursday via Instagram.
“After seven amazing seasons on ‘SNL,’ I’ve decided it’s time to move on to the next chapter,” she captioned the post. “It’s a cliché to say, but working on SNL was the greatest privilege of my life. I still can’t believe I got to be a part of it.”
Feynman, who appeared on season 45 of the NBC show in 2019, said it was “difficult” to leave the show but believed it was the “right time.”
“I’m going to miss you so much,” she said. “But the people who work there are my family and it’s my home. And I know I’ll never be far away.”
Page Six has learned that Feynman left SNL just hours after being offered a role in David E. Kelley’s new Netflix drama series, Myron Bolitar.
“It happened very quickly,” a source told us. “Chloe went back and forth, but it was a smart move. She knew she couldn’t say no.”
Sources also claim that Feynman had tense relationships with other SNL co-stars, which contributed to his departure.
“Khloé can rub people the wrong way sometimes,” the source said. “She got along very well with some cast members, but not everyone sympathized with her.”
The source added, “Some cast members felt that she expected people to accommodate her and expected everyone to accommodate her schedule and preferences.”
However, another source close to the show exclusively told us that “there is no truth to this.”
