Brian Austin Green has opened up about how his marriage to Megan Fox was led by “physical attraction” and opened up about their 15-year relationship.
“My ex-boyfriend and I were together for almost 15 years,” the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum said on Sunday’s episode of the “I Do, Part 2” podcast.
“We were married for almost 10 years, and I was leading with my physical attractiveness,” he told hosts TJ Holmes and Amy Robach.
Green, 52, explained that he is attracted to “being physically attracted to someone and building a relationship around that.”
The 40-year-old actor and Foxx married in 2010, but announced their divorce in May 2020 after welcoming three children, Noah, 13, Bodhi, 12, and Journey, 9.
“We ended up getting a divorce, which was unexpected,” he continued. “I had three children. I was a single mother.”
Looking forward, Green knew he didn’t want to “repeat” his past, so he ultimately decided to go to “therapy” and “really understand what[he]did that led to this toxic, bad relationship, and that he wasn’t helping it at all.”
During the session, the “Knots Landing” alum realized that she needed to “become friends with someone first” before getting into a romantic relationship.
“I think when you start by having a real connection with someone, you don’t care so much about whether they’re really into you or not,” he added, explaining that this allows the two of you to communicate “in a very transparent way.”
Green revealed he adopted a new approach before meeting his now-fiancée Sharna Burgess, 41, in December 2020.
“Shana and I talked together about our best and worst qualities,” he said. “We kind of put everything out on the table.”
“Your approach to a relationship is the best way to know if it’s just a physical relationship,” the actor explained.
“If this goes on for a long time, you’ll reach a point where you’re like, ‘I can’t stand this person anymore, so they’re not attracted to me anymore.'”
Green and the “Dancing with the Stars” alum welcomed son Zane in June 2022 and got engaged the following year.
Despite living apart, Green and Foxx have remained friendly over the years.
After breaking up with Green, the “Transformers” star revealed in June 2020 that she was dating ex-fiancé Machine Gun Kelly. The former lovers broke up in December 2024 after announcing they were expecting their first child.
Fox gave birth in March 2025, and they have been seen together several times since then, and it appears they were able to co-parent their daughter, Saga.
