The horse has left the stable.
“Dutton Ranch” stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly have spoken out about showrunner Chad Feehan’s sudden departure from the show.
“Showrunners change all the time,” Hauser, 51, told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s important in this business to adapt. We’ve been doing this for a long time.”
“Things change. People move on,” the actor added.
In an article published Wednesday, Riley, 48, also told the magazine that the cast and crew wrapped up season 1 “beautifully” with Feehan involved.
“We finished this season together, and it was really hard, but we were able to make a really satisfying show, and that was the case with ‘Yellowstone.'” As with anything worth making, she said.
“We all have creative minds and work together, and I’m very proud of that.”
“Dutton Ranch” is a spin-off of “Yellowstone” and follows Rip (Hauser) and Beth (Reilly) in the aftermath of the hit cowboy drama starring Kevin Costner as Beth’s late father.
“Yellowstone” mastermind Taylor Sheridan is producing the show, but Chad Feehan was the showrunner for season one.
Just three weeks before Dutton Ranch’s premiere, a source told Page Six in April, “If the show airs for a second season, Chad will not be returning.”
Hauser told HR that as executive producer, he wanted to make sure all actors felt “comfortable” and had a “voice,” and that Reilly believed no one knew Beth better than he did and felt “strong” about “protecting” that.
On Wednesday, Paramount announced that the show has been renewed for a second season. According to the network, about 13 million people streamed the show in its first week, making it the biggest cable show since 2023.
A new showrunner has not yet been announced.
“Taylor is very good at putting together a team of people that she trusts,” Christina Alexandra Volos, executive producer and director of “Dutton Ranch” and who also worked on several of Sheridan’s shows, including “Madison,” “Yellowstone” and “1883,” told Page Six exclusively in May.
“Dutton Ranch” airs Fridays on Paramount Network and Paramount+.
