Jimmy Kimmel announced that comedian Rosie O’Donnell will temporarily take over his late-night show for a two-month sabbatical.
“I’m going to voluntarily take the next two months off,” Kimmel said on Thursday night’s episode, jokingly referencing ABC’s brief cancellation of the show over his comments about Charlie Kirk’s death in September.
But the show will still go on as he named a “powerful group” of guest hosts, including Tiffany Haddish, Colman Domingo, Ike Barinholtz, Anthony Anderson and Jelly Rolle.
“And…I asked one of our Commander-in-Chief’s favorites, Rosie O’Donnell, to come here to keep the hits coming,” he said, to thunderous applause from the audience.
O’Donnell is one of several celebrities who left the state after Donald Trump’s second election victory. Together with her youngest son Clay, 13, they settled in Ireland.
“The View” alums and Trump have been at odds for years. However, their feud appears to have reached its peak in July 2025, when the president threatened to revoke the actress’ US citizenship.
“Due to the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interest of our country, I am seriously considering revoking her citizenship,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social at the time.
He added: “She is a threat to humanity and if they want her she should stay in this great country of Ireland. God bless America.”
O’Donnell hit back at Trump with a similarly passionate Instagram post.
“The President of the United States has always hated the fact that I see him for what he is: a criminal con artist who sexually abuses to harm the country in order to serve himself. This is why I moved to Ireland,” she captioned the post.
It appears that Ms. O’Donnell will return to the United States for an extended stay, as her citizenship appears to remain intact.
This is not the first time she has returned to her hometown. In February, she revealed that she had quietly returned to the United States to see her family.
“I went home for two weeks recently and I didn’t really tell anyone. I just went to see my family,” the comedian recently told Chris Cuomo during an appearance on “SiriusXM’s Cuomo Mornings.”
“I wanted to know how difficult it is to get in and out of this country,” she added. “I wanted to feel what it felt like. I wanted to hug my kids again. And I hadn’t been home in over a year.”
She also appeared on “Watch What Happens Live,” which was filmed in New York City earlier this week.
