Anne Hathaway has reflected on her “painful” fertility treatments years before revealing she was pregnant with her third child.
“I think we have a very one-size-fits-all approach to pregnancy,” Hathaway told The Associated Press in 2019 after revealing that she had struggled with infertility issues before conceiving her second child with husband Adam Shulman.
“And then you get pregnant, and for the most part, it’s a really happy time. But for a lot of people who are trying to get pregnant, that’s not the real story. Or it’s part of the story,” she continued. “And the stages leading up to that part of the story are really painful and very lonely and full of self-doubt. And I went through that.”
Hathaway, now 43, said it wasn’t “just waving a magic wand” to get pregnant.
“It’s more complicated,” she said.
The actress explained that women often feel unable to talk about their infertility issues, even though so many people experience them.
“When it came to posting that I was pregnant, I was conscious of the fact that it was going to make someone even more isolated,” Hathaway said of her pregnancy announcement at the time, sending “special love” to those who are pregnant or struggling to conceive.
“And I wanted them to know that I have a sister,” she said.
The “Princess Diaries” star confirmed she’s pregnant on Friday by posting a video of her growing baby bump on Instagram.
“X baby, I’m your x,” she captioned the post.
Page Six also obtained a photo Wednesday of Hathaway covering her growing baby’s butt with a towel while enjoying a day at the beach in St. Tropez.
Hathaway was soaking up the sun at Jardin Tropezina Beach on the Cote d’Azur with her husband, two sons, and some friends.
The Academy Award winner and Shulman married in 2012 and welcomed their first son, 10-year-old Jonathan, four years later. In 2016, their second son Jack (6 years old) was born.
Years later, Hathaway revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage in 2015.
