Bonnie Tyler has woken up from a medically induced coma but remains “seriously ill.”
On Monday, the singer’s team announced that “her condition is improving, but the recovery process is slow.”
Tyler is in intensive care in Faro, Portugal.
Last month, the 75-year-old “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer was placed in a medically induced coma after being rushed to hospital.
“Bonnie has been placed in an induced coma by doctors to aid her recovery. We know everyone is wishing her well and asking for privacy during this difficult time,” a statement from Tyler’s manager said at the time.
A few days earlier, a statement was released saying that Tyler was “admitted to a hospital in his home town of Faro, Portugal for emergency intestinal surgery.”
“The surgery was successful and he is currently recovering.”
In April, Tyler began experiencing “severe abdominal pain shortly after arriving in Portugal, where he has a second home, although tests in London were inconclusive,” according to The Sun.
She suffered severe lacerations to her intestines and had to undergo emergency surgery.
The following month, Tyler fell into a coma due to complications from the surgery.
Portuguese media claimed that Tyler went into cardiac arrest several weeks ago when they first tried to bring him out of a coma.
All concerts scheduled for the performers through the end of August have been cancelled.
Her management released a statement thanking her fans for their support.
“I would like to express my gratitude for the overwhelming sympathy and support from all over the world.”
Tyler is best known for the song “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” along with other Top 10 hits such as “It’s a Heartache” and “Holding Out For A Hero.”
In March, Tyler said in an interview with Hello! that he was confident in his health. magazine.
“I’m feeling pretty healthy at the moment, touching wood, and really enjoying the show,” Tyler told the outlet at the time.
