Anya Taylor-Joy is the latest star to join the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
The New Line and Warner Bros. film is directed by and stars Andy Serkis, who returns as Gollum and co-stars Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo) and Lee Pace (King Thranduil).
Taylor-Joy joins an outstanding ensemble of new cast members, including Kate Winslet (Marigol), Jamie Dornan (Strider) and Leo Woodall (Halberd). The Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee will play the role of Seren, a Sindarin elf from the Forest Kingdom who is described as “King Thranduil’s trusted and deadly agent.” Warner Bros. will release The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum worldwide on December 17, 2027.
This casting also marks Taylor-Joy’s third role in a Warner Bros. production. ” A popular series following “Furiosa” (the first part of “Mad Max: Fury Road”) and the movie “Dune”. Dune: Part 3, the final installment of Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed trilogy, will be released on December 18th. Taylor-Joy will next be seen in Apple TV+’s Lucky, which she also executive produces. She is repped by CAA, The Way Management, Apex PR, and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan.
Over 20 years, six theatrical films, “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit,” grossed nearly $6 billion worldwide. “The Hunt for Gollum” aims to continue that storied film’s legacy. The film will chronicle the quest of the depraved hobbit of the title in the years leading up to the first film in the trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. The film reunites the Oscar-winning creative team produced by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Bowen and Zane Weiner. Imaginarium’s Ken Cummins, Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish will serve as executive producers. Walsh and Boyen, the original trilogy’s screenwriters, are joined by Phoebe Gittins and Artie Papageorge to adapt the original work by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The next installment in the fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past, will be written by Philippa Bowen, Stephen Colbert and Peter McGee. The project is produced by WingNut Films in association with Spartina Industries.
