Beartooth bassist Oshie Vichar has expressed support for bandmate Caleb Shomo, who came out as gay while still married to his wife Fleur Shomo.
The musician reshared Caleb’s lengthy statement on his Instagram Stories on Saturday, along with a heart-reading emoji.
“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life lately and I feel I have to set the record straight before it affects my loved ones any further,” Caleb wrote.
“I’m proud to be gay. This is something I’ve been unraveling and thinking about for quite some time in my life,” he continued.
The 33-year-old vocalist revealed that she felt “embarrassed” for trying to suppress her emotions, admitting that she had “hidden my emotions with alcohol for 10 years”.
“Honestly, when I decided to stop doing that and focus on exploring why I had felt that way for so long, it was a direct path to making peace with my sexuality in hopes of ultimately leading to experiencing self-love,” Caleb continued.
The “I Was Alive” singer said he is “finally proud” of who he is now and thanked those who supported him.
Caleb’s wife Fleur, whom he married in 2012, paid tribute to her partner on Instagram on Saturday, admitting the past few months had been “disorienting” and “hurt” for them both.
“But I will continue to love, protect and support Caleb,” she added. “For many years, I cared about his health more than anything else in the world.”
“I’m the only one who has to deal with the duality of this situation. It was incredibly difficult to understand supporting him while losing everything,” Fleur continued, explaining that she was simultaneously helping her husband and losing herself.
Fleur went on to describe her 14-year marriage to Caleb as “amazing, filled with so much fun, adventure and love.”
“I miss my husband more than anything,” she concluded. “Our story has been a great one, and now it’s over.”
