Indian actor Supriya Pathak Kapoor makes her directorial debut with Our Story, a loose biographical feature co-written with her daughter Sana Kapoor and developed as a co-production between her banner Ravassar and Australian production company Films and Casting Temple. This project was presented at Cannes.
Australian-Indian filmmaker Anupam Sharma is on board as lead producer. Ruhaan Kapoor will serve as associate director and creative producer.
The film depicts the lives of three women from three generations of Pathak Kapoor’s family. herself, her mother, actor Dina Pathak, and her daughter Sana Kapoor, with whom she shares the script. ‘Our Story’ will be packaged with department heads in both India and Australia and positioned for international sales and distribution.
“‘Our Story’ is very personal to me. It draws from memory, family, femininity and the emotional inheritance that shapes who we become. Starting my journey as a director with a story so close to my heart, and doing it as an India-Australia co-production, makes this even more meaningful,” said Pathak Kapoor.
Forum Films has acquired theatrical distribution rights in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The film will first be released in the Toronto market under TIFF in September.
Pathak Kapoor is one of India’s most famous film stars, with credits including ‘Kalyug’, ‘Bazaar’, ‘Khichdi’ and ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’. Sana Kapoor’s screen works include ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’ and ‘Saroj Ka Rishta’.
“Supriya Pathak Kapoor is one of the finest actors India has produced, and it is exciting in every sense for her to embark on directing a story of such intimacy and scale. We are proud to work with her team and her new company to help shape ‘Our Story’ from the ground up as a truly international film,” said Sharma.
This project marks another step for Temple in building on-screen collaboration between India and Australia.
