Paris-based Film du Rosange has embarked on international sales for El Dorado, a psychological thriller directed by rising French filmmaker Laura Quivoron and starring Matthias Schoenaerts, Mallory Wanek, Antonia Bresci and Samuel Kircher.
“El Dorado” is director Quiboron’s second film, and his breakthrough film “Rodeo” had its world premiere in the 2022 Cannes “Un Certain Regard” category and won the Cou de Coeur Award. I have just finished this work, which captures a rural landscape in the mountains of the Luberon region.
Billed as a fast-paced psychological thriller that combines family drama and environmental crime, “El Dorado” centers on Yolain, a young woman who is left hearing impaired due to a childhood accident. Torn between her mother’s isolated sheep farm and her father Jean’s orbit, she is gradually drawn into the dangerous world of an illegal land reclamation project known as ‘Debarre’. As she becomes increasingly engulfed in his fascinating but unstable world, she begins to uncover the lies and manipulation at the root of his life, leading to a decisive rift.
In his notes, Quiboron described the film as a sprawling thriller driven by emotional tension and ambiguity, and at its core sustained by the changing relationship between father and daughter. She said Gene is believed to be a charismatic but violent man who gradually lost control due to his thirst for social approval.
“El Dorado” is produced for CG Cinema by Charles Gilibert, whose current work includes Andrei Zvyagintsev’s “Minotaur,” which was selected for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Laila Pinel’s “Shana.”
The film is co-produced by Wrong Men and financed by France 2 Cinéma and Canal+. French language distribution will be handled by Ad Vitam.
