Netflix is finalizing the cast for its upcoming Las Vegas casino series, currently titled “The Roman.”
Variety has learned that Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile will be joining the drama as series regulars, along with previously announced lead actor Oscar Isaac.
The official logline for “The Roman” reads, “Set in the high-stakes, present-day casino business of Las Vegas, a modernized but still dangerous version of the legendary city. At its center stands Robert “Bobby Red” Redman (Isaac), the president of the most popular hotel casino in town, and he must make several long-odds moves to secure his position and gain more. ” is stated.
Gilpin will star as Marla Blake, who is described as “Bobby’s formidable wife and a brilliant, well-connected lawyer who, like her husband, knows how to navigate the darkest corners of town.”
The role marks Gilpin’s latest project with Netflix. She previously starred in the streamer’s comedy series GLOW, which earned her three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Most recently, he appeared in the Netflix limited series “Death by Lightning” and the western “American Primeval.”
Baldwin will play Paul “Primo” Clark, who is described as “a legendary and hard-nosed business engineer, Primo is the organization’s longtime chairman and a father figure to Bobby, who is not afraid to let his protégés fight for his interests.”
This isn’t the first time Baldwin has played a casino boss. He previously played Sheldon “Shelley” Kaprow in the critically acclaimed film The Cooler, for which he was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Baldwin has appeared in few television shows during his long career, most notably appearing in the entirety of NBC’s hit series “30 Rock” as the Emmy Award-winning Jack Donaghy. He is also known for appearing on shows such as “Saturday Night Live” (for which he also won an Emmy Award), “Will & Grace” and “Dr. Death.”
Costabile is set to play Bill Saverick. “Saverick, the owner of a rival casino, is a longtime associate of Bobby’s but is often torn between being a loyal friend and a target of the city’s aggressive business strategies.”
Costabile is known for acclaimed shows such as “Billions,” “Breaking Bad” and “Suits.” His film credits include “Lincoln,” “The Dirt,” “The Post,” and “13 Hours.”
Gilpin is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Hansen, Jacobson & Teller. Baldwin is repped by UTA and manager Matt DelPiano. Costabile is represented by Verve, Gartner Group and Goodman Genow.
