According to a report from TMZ, actor Donald Gibb, known for his role as Ogre in the classic film series “Revenge of the Nerds,” has died at the age of 71.
His death comes just three months after the suicide of fellow “Nards” star Robert Carradine, who also died in February at age 71.
Gibb died Tuesday night at his home in Texas due to ongoing health complications, according to the outlet’s son, Travis. His son said he was being cared for by family members at the time of his death.
Gibb’s son told TMZ that his father loved the Lord, his family, friends and fans dearly and asked for prayers and privacy, adding that his father will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Gibb is best known for playing the hulking Alpha and Beta brothers in the Nerds series, but he also starred in 1988’s Bloodsport and its 1996 sequel Bloodsport II: The Next Kmite.
His other on-screen credits include “1st & Ten,” “Hancock,” “Jocks” and “Amazon Women on the Moon.”
According to IMDB, he had a brief stint in sports with the San Diego Chargers before his acting career.
Deadline reported that Gibb’s brother, actor Keith Carradine, revealed in February that Gibb’s co-star, who played Louis Skolnick in Revenge of the Nerds, took his own life after battling bipolar disorder.
His work in the 1984 comedy pitting a group of underdogs against a jock fraternity captivated movie buffs just like Gibbs, making it a beloved classic.
“It is with deep sadness that we must share the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and brother Robert Carradine,” the family said in a statement to the outlet at the time.
