Eric Clapton ended his recent concert in Spain early after being shocked by an object thrown by someone in the audience.
A concertgoer threw what appeared to be a vinyl record at the legendary guitarist during a performance at Madrid’s Movistar Arena on May 7, according to a video of the incident taken by a fan.
The viral clip shows Clapton walking on stage when he hits an object and pauses in shock.
Clapton, 81, had just finished playing “Cocaine” and, influenced by the record, did not return on stage to perform “Before You Accuse Me” as an encore, as he had done on other European dates on the tour, Guitar World reported.
The musician did not appear to be injured and performed in Barcelona on May 10th.
A representative for Clapton had no comment when contacted by Page Six.
The European leg of Clapton’s 2026 tour begins in April and concludes with three shows in Germany from May 13th to May 17th.
After a one-off show in the UK in August, the band will play shows across the US from September 6th to September 27th.
Clapton’s recent experience of having a vinyl record thrown at him is the latest in an unfortunate pattern of bad behavior by concertgoers in recent years.
In 2023, Bebe Rexha was blacked out in front of her eyes after a fan threw her phone at her during a concert, and Kelsea Ballerini was hit by an unknown object (some say a bracelet) while performing.
The following year, Nick Jonas was thrown off stage by an audience member who threw a laser at him, Zach Bryan had his show canceled after someone threw an object at him, and Billie Eilish was hit in the face with a bracelet.
In 2025, Katy Perry was grabbed by a fan who stormed the stage, and Luke Bryan was hit in the face with a ball during a concert.
