Starz has ordered a family drama series set in the world of black rodeo in southeast Texas.
The untitled one-hour series has received an eight-episode order at the premium cable company. This is the second series wholly owned by Starz since it was spun off from Lionsgate in 2025, the other being British boxing drama Fightland.
The rodeo drama’s logline reads, “Infused with hip-hop swagger and country soul, this series takes place in Southeast Texas, where rodeo is more than just something you do. At its core, three brothers are bound by their mother’s legacy and their father’s unfinished business. Driven by their own ambitions and drawn into the other’s orbit, alliances shift, relationships tangle, and no secret remains for long.”
Kirk A. Moore (Demascus, American Crime) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Gran Via Productions’ Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Interview with the Vampire) and Miki Bajaj (Demascus) and Counterpart Studios’ Tony Hernandez, Elise Henderson, and Lily Burns (Dexter: Resurrection, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, Free Bart) also serve as executive producers. Giovanna Dessel, vice president of original programming, and Kristina Jokanovic, senior vice president of original programming, are the executives overseeing series for Starz.
Moore is represented by CAA, manager Scott Carr, and attorneys Lorne Dunn and Nina Shaw.
“Messy family dynamics, amazing spectacle and undeniable arrogance. This is the kind of bold, original storytelling that we’ve been proud to own from the beginning,” said Kathryn Buzbee, president of original programming at Starz. “With a little urban grit and tons of country soul, this is Texas through and through. There’s nothing quite like it, and we’re excited to bring it to Starz audiences.”
