Kanye West postpones Marseille show as France considers entry ban

Kanye West has canceled a planned concert in France just as authorities are considering whether to bar him from entering the country over past anti-Semitic comments.

West announced on Tuesday that his Marseille show would be postponed “until further notice.” The show was scheduled for June 11th at the Stade Velodrome as part of their 2026 comeback tour.

“After much consideration, my only decision is to postpone my performance in Marseille, France, until further notice,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, he wrote, “I know it will take time for you to understand my sincerity in making amends. I take full responsibility for what is mine, but I don’t want to put my fans in the middle of it.

“My fans mean everything to me. I’m looking forward to the next show. See you at the top of the earth.”

The move comes as French officials, including Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, have publicly opposed the idea of West performing in the city, citing his history of anti-Semitic comments and a 2025 song titled “Heil Hitler.”

Arguing that both should not be given a platform in Marseille, Payan wrote to X that he “refuses to turn Marseille into a showcase for the promotion of hatred and unapologetic Nazism” and declared that “Kanye West is not welcome at the velodrome.”

Nuñez confirmed that authorities were considering legal options to cancel the show, but local reports said banning concerts entirely would be legally complex in the country.

“Local state authorities can only ban concerts under strict conditions if statements made at the event risk being a criminal offense and public order is endangered,” French newspaper Le Monde reported, referring to France’s Supreme Administrative Court.

The controversy has had similar repercussions in the UK, where West was banned from entering the country shortly after it was announced that he would be headlining all three nights of Wireless Festival in July.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said West “should never have been invited to perform”, sponsors withdrew and the festival was ultimately cancelled.

West has faced widespread criticism in recent years over anti-Semitic comments, including releasing a 2025 Super Bowl ad on his Yeezy website promoting products featuring an image of a swastika.

He later issued an apology in an ad in the Wall Street Journal, but has not addressed the issue publicly in detail since.

It is not yet clear whether the Marseille show will be postponed or canceled entirely.
