“Euphoria” returns for the first time in four years.
The show that helped put several Gen Z stars on the A-list, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sidney Sweeney, returns for its third and final season tonight, April 12th.
Season 3 begins a five-year time jump, with the characters growing older and graduating from high school. HBO’s official logline is vague: “A group of childhood friends grapple with the virtues of faith, the possibility of salvation, and the question of evil,” but various teasers have shown viewers what the characters will be up to after the time jump.
Lou (Zendaya) continues her journey to sobriety, while Cassie (Sweeney) and Nate (Elordi) settle into suburban life. Jules (Hunter Schaefer) is attending art school, while Maddie (Alexa Demme) and Lexi (Maud Apatow) work in Hollywood.
In her review of the new season, Page Six TV reporter Lauren Thurner called the long-awaited return a “crazy, off-track roller coaster” and noted that “if you’re looking for narrative coherence and character coherence, season 3 falls short.”
