After producing Netflix’s Diddy series “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” 50 Cent is stepping in front of the camera for his own documentary project.
The three-part documentary traces his evolution from Curtis Jackson, a dreamer from the streets of Queens, to internationally known music and business titan, Grammy Award-winning recording artist behind hits such as “In Da Club” and “Candy Shop,” to media mogul 50 Cent, who founded G-Unit Film & Television.
50 Cent is also an actor, having made his breakthrough in 2005’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’. The film is loosely based on his life and is named after his 2003 album. He played Marcus Greer, a drug dealer who pursues a career in hip-hop. He also starred in “Power,” which he served as executive producer, and is scheduled to appear in the upcoming movie “Street Fighter.”
According to the logline, “Through an intimate and revealing lens, this series depicts a man who continues to transform conflict and adversity into lasting cultural impact.”
The doc is directed by Mandon Lovett (The Boys in Blue, The French Montana Story: For Khadijah) and executive produced by G-Unit Film & Television’s 50 Cent, IPC’s Eli Holtzman and Aaron Seidman, and Patrick Altema, who also serves as showrunner with Lovett.
The untitled project joins Hulu’s strong documentary slate, including “Thank You, Good Night: The Bon Jovi Story,” “Friends Like These: The Skyler Nice Murder Case,” “The Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” “Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke,” and “Deaths in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg?” and “The Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Shelly Papini.”
50 Cent is represented by IAG, AKR Public Relations and attorney Stephen J. Savva.
