Vietnam’s Story of Alabama Films will be at the Beijing International Film Festival with “A ‘Good’ Best Luck,” a dark comedy-drama based on local spiritual folklore.
Directed by Khương Ngọc and Tấn Hoàng Thông of VIC.N Studios, the film centers on Tam, a young deliveryman born with a heart problem who participates in a strange folk ritual called “lying in the coffin” in order to change his fate through the symbolic act of death. Dương Hải Yến will serve as executive producer.
Leading the cast is Hong Dao, one of Vietnam’s most widely known performers, whose appearance on Netflix’s Beef made her known to audiences around the world. She also starred in Mai (2023), which became the highest-grossing Vietnamese film in history. Khương Ngọc and Hồng Đào have previously co-starred in the dramas “The Real Sister” and “My Little Grandma.” Vo Thanh Phat plays the lead role.
“‘Good Luck’ is a very local story, but one that speaks to universal questions about destiny and responsibility,” Duong Hai Yong said. “It reflects how people rely on their belief systems when pushed to their limits, and how real change ultimately comes from within.”
Mockingbird Pictures holds worldwide distribution rights and is pursuing both theatrical release across the region and international streaming platforms. Negotiations with a prospective buyer are ongoing.
“As audiences around the world continue to embrace authentic, culturally-based storytelling, we believe ‘Good Best Track’ is a film that has the potential to connect with audiences beyond Vietnam,” said Phuong Duong, business director of Mockingbird Pictures.
The film, whose Vietnamese title is Lên Hương, is currently in final production and is scheduled to be released in Vietnam in the last quarter of 2026. Mockingbird plans to take the project to more festivals and markets in the coming months.
