Netflix has ordered a limited series “The Corrections” starring Meryl Streep, Variety has confirmed.
The show, based on Jonathan Franzen’s novel of the same name, was first reported to be released in late 2024. Franzen will executive produce the film based on his novel, and Streep will star in the film and also serve as executive producer. Mark Roybal and Paul Lee will serve as executive producers for wiip, with Nicole Clemens also serving as executive producer. Cord Jefferson (American Fiction, Watchmen) will executive produce and direct all episodes. Produced by Paramount Television Studios.
The show’s official logline describes it as “a sharply comical depiction of a Midwestern family in which three unresolved adult siblings desperately resist their mother’s desire to spend one last Christmas together, only to be shattered by their own delusional ambitions to save them from parenthood.”
The Corrections was originally published in 2001. This is not the first attempt to adapt this book into a film. A film version was previously in development, but never materialized. HBO then commissioned a pilot based on the book in 2011, starring Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, and Ewan McGregor. However, in 2012, it was reported that the pilot would not be adapted into a series.
This will be Streep’s latest television role in recent years. She previously appeared in seasons 3 and 4 of Hulu’s hit comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” and was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for her work on the show. She also appeared on HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and was nominated for a Globe and an Emmy Award. Widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses of all time, Streep has been nominated for 21 Academy Awards during her career, making her the most nominated actor of all time. She won awards for the films “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Sophie’s Choice,” and “The Iron Lady.”
Streep is repped by CAA and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham. Jefferson is repped by CAA, 3 Arts and Ziffren Brittenham. Franzen is repped by Gotham Group, Writer’s House and attorney Alex Corner.
