Warner Bros.’ live-action/animation hybrid film “Animal Friends” has been moved from its scheduled June 5 release date to January 22, 2027, the studio announced Friday. Ryan Reynolds voices Pony and Jason Momoa voices Bear in this tale of two fugitive animals.
Director Peter Atencio directs the road trip adventure for adults, co-starring Aubrey Plaza as a DEA agent, Addison Rae, Dan Levy as a Fish and Wildlife ranger, Lil Ray Howery as a bird voice, and Ellie Bamber.
It is said that ponies are small narcissists, while large bears dislike conflict. They set off on an adventure across America to find their old ranch, pursued by an odd couple: a DEA agent and a Fish and Wildlife ranger.
Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider wrote the script for Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios.
“Animal Friends” jumps around the schedule like rabbit fluff. It was originally scheduled for August 15, 2025 through Columbia, but moved to Warner Bros. after Legendary’s distribution deal with Sony ended. Warner postponed the hybrid film’s release to October 10th, then May 1st, and June 5th.
Several other releases are scheduled for the June 5 date vacated by “Animal Friends,” including Amazon/MGM’s “Masters of the Universe,” Lionsgate’s “Power Ballad” starring Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd, and Paramount/Miramax’s “Scary Movie.”
Reynolds has the action comedy “Mayday” scheduled for release in September, Momoa will star in “The Wrecking Crew” in January, and both “Street Fighter” and “Dune: Part 3” are scheduled for release in late 2026.
