The Oscars will move from Dolby Theater to Peacock Theater starting in 2029.

Hollywood’s biggest night is coming to town. The Oscars will move from the Dolby Theater to the Peacock Theater from 2029 to 2039.

The first year in the new location coincides with the transition of broadcast television to YouTube after decades on ABC. It is also the 101st Oscar ceremony. Dolby Theater has hosted the Oscars since 2002, with the exception of the 2021 ceremony, which was held at Union Station due to coronavirus precautions.

The film is part of what is being touted as a partnership between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and AEG, which owns and operates L.A. Live, the 23-acre district where the Peacock Theater is located.

As part of the partnership, AEG will undertake “comprehensive enhancements to the theater” including upgrades to the stage, sound and lighting systems, lobby, backstage facilities and additional production-critical areas. AEG added that it will work closely with the Academy to incorporate “bespoke design elements necessary to accommodate the Oscars ceremony.”

Red-carpet arrivals gather in LA Live’s recently expanded plaza.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor said, “We are excited to partner with a world-leading company like AEG. AEG’s track record in building and operating technologically sophisticated live venues is unparalleled.” “The Academy looks forward to working closely with AEG beyond the 101st Oscars to make L.A. Live the perfect backdrop for a global festival of film, both for live audiences in theaters and for moviegoers around the world.”

“LA Live was founded to host culture-defining moments, and there’s no greater global stage than the Oscars,” said AEG Chief Revenue Officer Todd Goldstein. “We are proud to partner with the Academy to reimagine the look and feel of the Oscars for years to come. Together, we will create an environment that celebrates creativity, celebrates excellence, and provides an unforgettable experience for moviegoers around the world.”
