Zendaya says filming Season 3 of Euphoria was “a whirlwind.”
“I did in about four months what I would do in eight months,” she told me Tuesday night at the premiere of her new film “The Drama” at the DGA. “It was like trying to record eight episodes at once. It flew by.”
Zendaya, who won two Emmy Awards for her role as Rue on the show, says she has “watched a little bit” of the new season. “I’m excited,” she said. “I hope it turns out beautifully.”
In addition to this year’s “The Drama” and “Euphoria,” she is also set to star in “Dune: Part 3,” the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and Christopher Nolan’s new epic fantasy action movie “The Odyssey.”
The first trailer for “Euphoria” Season 3 was released in January ahead of its April 12 premiere on HBO and HBO Max.
In addition to Zendaya, the main cast includes Sidney Sweeney, Hunter Schaefer, Jacob Elordi, the late Eric Dane, Alexa Demme, Maud Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Coleman Domingo, and Dominic Fike. Past cast members Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid, Javon “Wana” Walton, and Austin Abrams will not be returning for the new season. Angus Cloud, who broke out as Fezco, passed away in July 2023 at the age of 25.
The new season jumps forward five years, with Cassie (Sweeney) and Nate (Elordi) married and living in the suburbs, and Lou living in Mexico to pay off her debt to drug dealer Laurie (Kelly). Levinson previously revealed that Jules (Schaefer) goes to art school and Maddie (Demi) works at a Hollywood talent agency.
Elordi previewed the new season in October. “It was incredible,” he told me at the Academy Museum Gala. “It was incredibly liberating. I got to play something that was so different from anything I’d ever done before.”
He said series creator Sam Levinson had “created something incredibly smart and cinematic, and I think people are going to love it.”
Elordi claimed he doesn’t know everything about what’s going on in season 3, saying, “Everyone is trying out different storylines.” “I don’t know what other people are doing. I had a really singular storyline. I don’t know what the other storylines are. It’s like the FBI files. So it’s great because as a fan, I get to consume the show like everyone else. I’m really excited about it, something I haven’t been able to do before.”
Newcomers this season include Sharon Stone, Rosalia, Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Daniel Deadwyler, Eli Roth, and Marshawn Lynch.
