Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and its affiliated audiovisual content market TIFFCOM have announced the dates for the 2026 edition.
The 39th TIFF will be held for 10 days from October 26th to November 4th, and the accompanying TIFFCOM market will be held for three days from October 28th to 30th.
Both events return to established Tokyo locations. TIFF’s main venue will remain in the Hibiya, Yurakucho, Marunouchi, and Ginza areas, but TIFFCOM will once again be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho Hall.
The call for entries is scheduled to begin on April 7th, and details will be posted on the TIFF official website.
The 2026 edition follows the 38th episode, which aired from October 27 to November. This edition brought together a galaxy of stars on the Takarazuka Theater’s opening red carpet, including Juliette Binoche, Fan Bingbing, Paul Schrader, and Japanese film legend Sayuri Yoshinaga, who received the TIFF Lifetime Achievement Award. The festival also debuted the Asian Student Film Conference, a new showcase for emerging talent from film schools in the region Reflecting the growing international demand for Japanese intellectual property, TIFFCOM expanded its Tokyo Gap Finance Market and rebranded its Story Market as Tokyo IP Market: Adaptations & Remakes.

Japan was chosen as the country of honor at this year’s Cannes Film Market. Japan experienced a box office boom in 2025 with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugenjou Part 1, a monumental year for the Japanese theatrical market, pushing total box office revenue to a record 274.45 billion yen ($1.79 billion), up 32% from 2024’s approximately 206 billion yen ($1.34 billion).
The long-awaited Toho film Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to be released in Japan on November 3rd, the penultimate day of the festival, continuing the tradition of being released on Godzilla Day.
