This shopping mission to the north seems to have headed south.
According to author and journalist Amy O’Dell’s latest newsletter, Back Row, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West once tried to buy a particularly coveted Hermès Kelly bag for their eldest daughter, but were turned away.
O’Dell recently spoke with a former employee of the Beverly Hills Hermès Boutique for her “Retail Confessions” series, and the source revealed that “not all celebrities got what they wanted” when shopping at the store.
“Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wanted black mini Kelly bags for North and others, but Hermès said no,” the source claimed.
“We don’t know why, but we thought, ‘Wow,’ and at that point, I think it goes through the companies, because if someone that high profile wants something, obviously they’re going to be photographed for it. And they don’t want just anybody to be photographed,” they continued.
“So I’d call the press office and be like, ‘Hey, so-and-so wants a handbag.’ And they’d usually say, ‘Cool.’ But for some reason they didn’t want Northwest to have Mini Kelly the alligator. ”
One of the rarest Hermès bags on the market, the Alligator Mini Kelly can easily fetch more than $75,000 when resold.
Given that the now 12-year-old has a variety of other Hermès styles at her disposal, we can only assume that she lost much sleep over the alleged snub.
Mama Kim owns an extensive collection of expensive purses from the French fashion house, including multiple Mini Kellys, a Jean Paul Gaultier-designed shoulder Birkin, and a Himalayan Birkin. Himalayan Birkins can fetch up to $500,000 on the resale market.
Meanwhile, North was spotted holding a white Birkin in 2019 when she was just six years old. And in 2014, the youngster famously finger-painted a Hermès herbal bag as a gift for his famous mother.
Hermès’ press team did not immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment on the claims.
