Teddi Mellencamp has revealed that he suffered a horrific health scare that left him covered in painful sores.
“I thought I had the flu, and then one day I woke up and I had a really bad rash all over my body. I wouldn’t call it a rash. It’s more like sores all over my body,” the reality star told co-host Tamra Judge on Tuesday’s episode of the Two Ts in a Pod podcast.
Mellencamp said the wound was “painful and burning,” and emergency medicine doctors told her to go to the emergency room as soon as possible.
In the hospital, the podcast host discovered that a new drug he was taking caused Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
According to the Mayo Clinic, it is a “rare and serious disease of the skin and mucous membranes.”
Similar to what Mellencamp experienced, the reaction begins with flu-like symptoms that then turn into a painful rash. The affected layers of skin fall off and new skin replaces them.
Cancer patients are at much higher risk of experiencing this reaction.
Mellencamp revealed that she was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in October 2022, before undergoing more than a dozen surgeries.
In 2025, the “RHOBH” alum underwent emergency surgery to remove several tumors in her brain.
Even though the disease had spread to her lungs, Mellencamp, 44, said in October that she was cancer-free.
Although not in “remission,” Mellencamp has started immunotherapy.
“I’m not considered to be in remission or anything like that,” she confessed on a podcast at the time. “When (doctors) say it works, it’s like after a year, two years, three years it’s considered remission.”
But her ex-husband Edwin Arroyave said the immunotherapy was “very tough on her mental health.”
“One of the hardest things for her is that she really can’t exercise,” the businesswoman explained to listeners of her podcast “The Eds” in January, noting that her ex was “just starting to get physical” again.
“She’s on immunotherapy, but that alone causes side effects,” elaborated the 48-year-old, who like Mellencamp has children Slate, 12, Cruz, 11, and Dove, 6.
Fans were worried in January after fitness coach father John Mellencamp said his daughter was “really sick” and “suffering.”
“It’s not fun,” the singer said on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast at the time. “She has cancer in her brain and is suffering right now.”
Mellencamp later set the record straight on “Two Ts in a Pod,” saying:
“Immediately people thought, ‘Oh my god, the cancer is back,'” the 58-year-old judge said.
“No, there’s no evidence of cancer yet. But I’m still considered stage 4, and I’m on immunotherapy. So basically, nothing has changed yet. I don’t feel well…I wish I felt better by now, but I don’t,” Mellencamp clarified.
Recently, the star expressed gratitude for the journey he’s had so far. In February, she commemorated the one-year anniversary of her brain surgery with a touching post on Instagram.
“One year ago today, I went to the ER thinking I had a migraine and within 24 hours I was scheduled for surgery for a stage 4 tumor the size of a plum in my brain,” Mellencamp captioned a photo from her hospital stay.
“I have a lot of anxiety today, but I also have a lot of gratitude,” she continued. “Thank you to the doctors and nurses who took care of me. Thank you to my family and friends who supported me. And thank you for all the love you showered me. Trust your instincts. Get tested ❤️.”
