Father Dragon and Highlander will be made into a graphic novel

Two very different films have been given the graphic novel treatment by Titan Comics.

My Father’s Dragon, the Netflix animated film based on the popular children’s novel by Ruth Stiles Gannett, will be released on September 15th. Meanwhile, Highlander: The Original Screenplay, based on Gregory Wyden’s screenplay, which is the basis of the cult fantasy action-adventure, is scheduled for release on November 17th.

My Father’s Dragon, published under the Titan Nova (YA) imprint, is taken directly from the acclaimed film and features artwork developed by award-winning Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon and Oscar-nominated director Nora Twomey. The story follows Elmer as he struggles to adjust after suddenly moving to the city with his mother. He flees in search of a mysterious wild island and a dragon that desperately needs rescue. His journey brings him wild beasts, strange and wonderful lands, and the beginnings of an unforgettable friendship.

“Art director Aine McGuinness (Late Afternoon, Ail), production designer Rosa Ballester Cabo (Song of the Sea, Breadwinner), and screenwriter Meg Le “It was a great experience working with such talented creators like Fauve (Inside Head, Inside Out 2) on the My Father’s Dragon movie,” said Toomey. “It’s truly wonderful to see this story breathed new life into an adaptation by the brilliant Samuel Sattin (The Wolfwalkers, Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells graphic novels), and the graphic novel adaptation by the legendary Titan Comics is extremely exciting for everyone involved in this film.”

In “Highlander: An Original Screenplay,” the novel presents the immortal story of Connor MacLeod as Wilden first imagined it when he wrote his first screenplay as an undergraduate at UCLA. It then became the first basis for a movie classic (now being rebooted for the big screen). Spanning centuries of history, epic duels, and shadowy rivalries, this story follows Connor’s journey through the ages as he faces off against other immortals in a deadly competition for the mysterious ultimate prize.

“I’ve been a fan of Highlander since the beginning, so I’m really excited to be able to bring it back as originally envisioned by Gregory Wyden, who created this whole story,” said Jonathan Wilkins, editor of Highlander: Original Screenplays.

“Readers will be able to experience this epic adventure set across centuries for the first time. It was a real thrill to work with Gregory before filming began and discover the different paths his story explored. So get ready to visit the bloody highlands of the mid-1500s and the rolling streets of early 1980s New York for an epic interpretation of the immortal tale!”
