June “Mama June” Shannon is suffering from a mysterious medical issue that could “potentially incapacitate” her, Page Six exclusively reveals.
“I unexpectedly had a hysterectomy last year. Last April. It was unexpected,” the reality TV star explained to “Virtual Reality” co-hosts Evan Real and Danny Murphy on Tuesday. “I had some fibroid cysts that had migrated into separate cysts, so it was a little scary.”
The “Mama June: Redemption” star added that she was even more scared following the tragic death of her daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who passed away in December 2023 after a battle with cancer. She was 29 years old.
“I too was going through what Anna went through and was worried about getting ovarian cancer. I told the (other) kids that too. It was in my head for a long time.”
Mama June, who admitted she is going through menopause, added that she is “still battling medical issues” but clarified that the issues are “completely separate” and have nothing to do with the permanent cessation of menstruation.
The 46-year-old “Toddlers & Tiaras” alum explained, “Some days are tough for me, but it’s nothing like (cancer).” “I tell people, ‘I’ll never die, but I might get stuck.'”
Although her exact health issues are unknown at this time, Mama June has always remained positive as she has kept her fans updated on medical concerns.
For example, Mama June famously underwent gastric sleeve surgery to lose weight in 2016, but then revealed in April 2024 that she had gained back 130 pounds.
In June of the same year, she exclusively told Page Six that she lost 30 pounds in just two months after starting to take weight loss pills.
Mama June had another health scare in July 2025, when she was rushed to the hospital after being warned by a psychic that she was having a “heart attack” while filming “Mama June: Family Crisis.”
Mama June was joined by her daughters Lauryn “Pumpkin” Effard, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and Jessica Shannon for Tuesday’s interview.
More than two years after Anna’s heartbreaking death, the family detailed how they have been coping with her tragic loss.
“I definitely think some days are better than others, to be honest,” Pumpkin said. “I still sometimes find myself scrolling through TikTok late at night, going to Anna’s page, watching her old videos.”
Jessica chimed in, adding: “Or when we would play games like Monopoly, which we all used to play together. Her face would pop up every time.”
The girls added that a particular song that always reminds them of Anna is Warren Zuiders’ “Pretty Little Poison,” which was played at her funeral.
“It plays in the car literally every time without question,” Honey Boo Boo said. “I let it play all the way through, because I’m like…’I can’t skip it.'”
