“I Love Boosters,” the latest feature film from “I’m Sorry” filmmaker Boots Riley, will be shown on the West Coast as the centerpiece of the 69th San Francisco International Film Festival. The screening will take place on April 28th at Oakland’s historic Grand Lake Theater, where Riley will appear in conversation on stage.
“I Love Boosters” follows a crew of young women who turn shoplifting into an act of rebellion. Led by Corbett, played by Keki Palmer, the group travels across Auckland, acquiring coveted items and selling them at discounted prices, with the aim of making fashion more accessible. Their exploits attract the attention of fashion mogul Kristin Smith (Demi Moore), and the group must add supernatural allies and time-bending technology to plan one final heist.
The featured program includes two screenings at Oakland’s Grand Lake Theatre. Show times are 6:30pm and 9:30pm. Tickets go on sale for SFFILM members on March 2nd at sffilm.org and for the general public on March 4th.
The San Francisco International Film Festival will be held from April 24th to May 4th in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland. The full program will be announced on April 1st.
Director Boots, a long-time member of the SFFILM community, said, “I’m so excited to welcome I Love Boosters to SFFILM, as they were the first organization to recognize me as a filmmaker and support my filmmaking journey.” It’s going to be special to have it premiere in theaters in my hometown. This is my best work, and it’s going to be special to see it set in the Bay Area.” Please play here. ”
