Sarah Michelle Gellar is grateful for her 30-year friendship with Michelle Trachtenberg as she pays tribute one year after her tragic death.
On Thursday, Gellar posted a series of photos with her late Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star, saying they were “lucky” to have spent so much time together.
“From the first day we walked on set together to when, less than a year later, you were already taller than me,” Geller wrote. “But I first worked with you on ‘All My Children.’ I watched you become a star on ‘Harriet.’
Geller, 48, added that when she thinks of Trachtenberg, “I think of that smile that took over her entire face and brought so much joy to others.”
She explained that Trachtenberg was very close to her and husband Freddie Prinze Jr.’s two children, Charlotte and Rocky, and attended countless birthday parties, “I think there were cooler places.”
“It may not have been long since you’ve been with us,” the “Ready or Not 2” star concluded. “But we ask everyone to remember.”
Mr. Geller included images of Trachtenberg from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” the 1996 film “Harriet the Spy,” and the soap opera “All My Children.”
Geller and Trachtenberg’s friendship dates back to the ’90s, when the two starred in “All My Children.”
Trachtenberg, who died on February 26, 2025, at the age of 39 due to complications from diabetes, joined the cast of the fifth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2000, playing Geller’s sister Dawn.
After news of Trachtenberg’s death broke, Geller shared a touching quote from the paranormal show.
“‘Michelle, listen. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.’ 💔💔💔🗝️,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, loosely quoting a line from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5 finale.
In October, Geller remembered Trachtenberg on Instagram on what would have been her 40th birthday.
“When you turned 16, it was hard not to still see you as the little girl I met on ‘All My Children.’ When you turned 21, I had to teach myself not to see you as my little sister anymore. I can’t imagine what it was like to be 40. I know this… it will be filled with love. Happy birthday @michelletrachtenberg,” she sweetly shared.
Trachtenberg died tragically in his Central Park South apartment.
At the time, the Post confirmed that the “Ice Princess” star died of cardiac arrest.
Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant.
Officials claimed at the time that Trachtenberg’s body rejected the transplant.
Sources also told People that the Gossip Girl alum had been suffering from “health issues” and was “very depressed mentally.”
“She told her friends she was in pain,” the source claimed. “She was really, really sick and was very open about how much she was suffering.”
