Martin Short is taking some time off.
After announcing the death of his daughter Katherine Short, the “Only Murders in the Building” actor postponed a comedy show with co-star Steve Martin.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Steve Martin and Martin Short performance originally scheduled for Friday, February 27th in Milwaukee has been postponed,” Pabst Theater Group announced on its website Tuesday.
“Tickets will still be accepted for future postponed dates. We will contact you as additional news becomes available.”
The duo also postponed their February 28th show in Minneapolis, and the Hennepin Arts website announced, “The Steve Martin & Martin Short show originally scheduled for Saturday, February 28th has been postponed. Tickets will be accepted once a future rescheduled date has been determined.”
The pair are scheduled to return to the stage in Washington, D.C., on March 13, but it’s unclear whether that show will also be postponed.
Just hours ago, the “Innerspace” actor’s rep confirmed to Page Six that Katherine died by suicide.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Catherine Hartley Short,” the statement said.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
According to TMZ, the 42-year-old was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her home in the Hollywood Hills, California, around 6pm local time on Monday.
“At 6:41 p.m., we responded to a report of shots fired at that address,” the Los Angeles Fire Department told Page Six, confirming that the 911 call was received.
“A woman has been reported dead.”
A subsequent 911 call revealed that the person who reported the incident to authorities was “with the patient and was unable to enter the bedroom.”
The social worker has previously been open about her struggles with mental health and featured her service dog Joni on her professional website.
“Joni is my amazing service dog who has helped me battle my own mental illness for the past five years,” Katherine wrote.
“Joni is often with me in the office and cuddling in bed,” Katherine continued. “She’s a really sweet person and just loves people, so don’t be surprised if she greets you with a smile, a wag of her tail…and maybe even a kiss.”
Although Katherine has largely remained out of the spotlight, she has accompanied her father on several red carpets over the years.
Her last public appearance was in October 2023, when she celebrated her 40th birthday at Grand Master Recorders Restaurant in Hollywood.
Martin adopted Catherine with his late wife Nancy Dolan, who died of cancer in 2010 at the age of 58.
He also welcomed sons Oliver, 41, and Henry, 36, with Dolan through adoption.
