Former “Project Runway” judge Tim Gunn revealed that he remained single for 43 years because his ex-girlfriend cheated on him.
“I was in a serious relationship for nine years in Washington, D.C., and I loved this man so deeply that I would have done anything for him, and I still remember the night it all ended,” Gunn, 72, said on the Feb. 19 episode of Chelsea Handler’s “Dear Chelsea” podcast.
Gunn recalled that her ex-boyfriend told her, “I can’t stand you anymore. I want you to break up with me,” as they were watching “M*A*S*H” in bed.
“I had my own apartment, but I lived with him for many years, so I moved out,” the TV personality said. “I drove to my apartment on Rock Creek Parkway and had to pull over because I was hyperventilating. I was beside myself with my flagellation and self-pity and it was really bad.”
Ms Gunn said her ex-boyfriend was also a colleague and she thought they would have to meet again.
“One of the things he told me that night was that he slept with everything that passed by, and I was loyal and loyal to him,” Gunn explained. “He was the only person I’ve ever been with.”
“Self-pity turned into completely uncontrollable anger as I thought he had given me a death sentence. Of course I got tested for HIV every six months for 10 years, but thankfully I had a clean slate.”
“But every time I was even tempted to get involved in something that could potentially get serious with someone, it all came back like Niagara Falls and just took away the desire.”
Ms Gunn admitted that at first being single and a “single person” was “a bit of an adjustment”, but now she “couldn’t think of it any other way”.
Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Gunn revealed that she wasn’t asked to appear on the 2025 reboot of Project Runway, calling the rejection “devastating at first.”
However, Gunn said, “Things happen for a reason,” and added that he feels like he has been “on this show for 19 seasons, 16 of which I was very fortunate to have co-starred with Heidi (Klum).”
Gunn and Klum, 52, currently executive produce and star in Prime Video’s reality fashion series “Making the Cut.”
