Friends of Eric Dane launched a $250,000 fundraiser for his two daughters after his death.
A GoFundMe account states that the “Grey’s Anatomy” star died Thursday at the age of 53.He leaves behind a devoted wife, Rebecca, and two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.After battling ALS.
““Despite his diagnosis and the deterioration of his own health, Eric remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease,” they continued.
“His illness progressed much faster than anyone expected, so Eric’s friends came together to create this GoFundMe to support his daughters and their future needs.“
Dane’s family announced his death in a statement to People magazine on Thursday. “It is with heavy hearts that we share that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement read.
“Throughout his battle with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same battle. He will be deeply missed and will always be remembered with love.”
“Eric loves his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he has received,” the statement concluded. “The family has requested privacy as they work through this impossible time.”
After his death, the actor’s voice resurfaced in a pre-recorded video message to his daughters on Netflix’s Famous Last Words, imploring them to “fight until your last breath” and “never give up” in the face of adversity.
Dane and wife Rebecca Gayheart called off their divorce in 2025 amid the “Brilliant Minds” actor being diagnosed with a debilitating illness.
“We tell our daughters, ‘We show up for people no matter what. He’s our family. He’s your father,'” Gayheart said of her daughters during an appearance on the Broad Ideas podcast in November.
Dane’s fundraiser comes after a GoFundMe for James Van Der Beek, who died on February 11 after a battle with colon cancer, raised more than $2.5 million for his wife, Kimberly, and their six children.
Celebrities such as Zoe Saldana, Derek Hough, and Steven Spielberg contributed to the effort.
